The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has officially disseminated the updated natural gas sale prices. This announcement stems from the directives of the federal government, which, by sections 7(1), 8(3), and 21(2)(h) of the OGRA Ordinance, 2002, has furnished OGRA with revised, category-specific natural gas sale prices for a formal proclamation.

The federal government, exercising its exclusive authority as delineated in the pertinent sections, determines sale prices for distinct consumer categories of natural gas, considering socioeconomic factors and sectoral policies. This comprehensive process involves adjusting cross-subsidy and Gas Development Surcharge to harmonize with overarching national objectives.

Aligned with the policy guidelines laid out by the federal government, OGRA has now disclosed the updated natural gas sale prices, applicable from November 1, 2023.

The revamped pricing structure includes fixed monthly charges tailored to different consumer categories. Specifically, domestic consumers categorized as protected will bear a fixed monthly charge of Rs. 400.

In contrast, non-protected category consumers will contend with varying fixed monthly charges. Those with consumption up to 1.5 hm3 will be subject to a Rs. 1,000 monthly charge, while consumers exceeding 1.5 hm3 will encounter a monthly fee of Rs. 2,000.

This announcement underscores the regulatory framework’s dedication to aligning natural gas pricing with overarching policy goals, ensuring equilibrium among consumer affordability, sectoral sustainability, and national developmental objectives.

The nuanced pricing structure exemplifies a thoughtful approach to address the diverse needs of consumers while concurrently endorsing responsible usage and effective resource management.

As of November 1, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has officially released the updated natural gas sale prices in accordance with directives from the federal government.

The comprehensive approach, guided by sections 7(1), 8(3), and 21(2)(h) of the OGRA Ordinance, 2002, empowers the federal government to determine category-specific prices for natural gas, factoring in socioeconomic considerations and sectoral policies.?
