Pakistan And China Mark The Beginning Of Second Phase Of Cpec

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Vice premier He Xi Jinping held a special event to mark the 10-year of CPEC on Monday. ?He?Xi Jinping also called on President Arif Alvi and the Army Chief General Asim Munir. Chinese Vice Premier is on three-day visit to Pakistan to mark 10-years of CPEC.


Both the sides agreed to revive the second phase of CPEC which in fact the flagship project of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). For different reasons, the work on CPEC got slowed down in past. 

Six Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) were singed.?It was decided to expedite the process of multi-billion-dollar Main Line (ML-I) railway project which has also been slowed down in past.


The minutes of the last Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting which is the highest forum on CPEC were also singed. The pervious JCC meeting was held in October but the minutes of the that meeting were not signed which arose many questions. 


The Signing ceremony of the Memoranda of Understanding was witnessed by the high-level delegation, led by the Chinese Vice Premier He and Pakistani Ministers and senior officials of concerned ministries. During the event, Ahsan Iqbal, the Federal Minister for Planning and Vice Chairman of Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Cong Liang signed the minutes of 11th?meeting held on October 27, 2022.
