National Assembly Passes Two Bills, Refers Five Legislative Proposals To Committees

National Assembly Session held last week passes two bills referring five legislative proposals to committees. The assembly passed two government bills and referred four bills as well as an ordinance to the relevant committees. 


According to the sources, two of the bills passed by the House comprise the Anti-Dumping Duties (Amendment) Bill, 2022 and the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2022. 


The national assembly also witnessed the introduction of four government bills and the laying of an Ordinance. These bills were forwarded to the relevant committees for further consideration. 


The bills passed in the national assembly included the Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2022. While the Trade Dispute Resolution Bill, 2022 was also introduced. In addition, the Naturalization (Amendment) Bill, 2022; the Securities and Futures Market Bill, 2022 were also brought into view. 


The Tax Laws (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2022, (Ordinance No. VI of 2022) was also laid in the House. 

Afterwards, the House meet again on October 10, 2022 (Monday) at 5 pm to further discuss the five bills propose to the respective committees. 


In January this year, the National Assembly during Imran KhanÂ’s government, passed four bills including “The National Rahmatul-Lil-Aalameen Wa Khatamun Nabiyyin Authority Bill, 2022”, “State-Owned Enterprises (Governance and Operations) Bill, 2021”, “The Public-Private Partnership Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2022”, and “The National Highways Safety (Amendment) Bill, 2021”. 


‘State-Owned Enterprises (Governance and Operations) Bill, 2021,Â’ was presented in the House and was passed with a majority vote. 


As per the objects and reasons of the State-Owned Enterprises (Governance and Operations) Bill, 2021, “the purpose of this law is to define the role of the federal government as a shareholder with a view to enabling an effective discharge of its obligations as such, to introduce transparency of operations and to establish a central database of information pertaining state-owned enterprises to support data-driven policy making by the Federal Government.”
