The Capital Development Authority CDA is going to start construction of 11th Avenue in order to avoid the projected traffic jams at E-11 and Khayabani-Iqbal following the completion of a road linking the?newly completed Margalla Avenue with sector E-11.

When the 5.5-kilometre-long road from D-12 (where Margalla Avenue ends) to E-11 is finished by July, all traffic on Margalla Avenue will be diverted to E-11 and Khayabani-Iqbal (two lanes on either side of the road), causing a traffic jam.

A retired bureaucrat told the media?that if the traffic problem at the said junction is not resolved, “this area will be a new Raja Bazaar,” adding that the existing two-lane Khayabani-Iqbal is already congested due to the presence of a number of educational institutions. “As a result, when traffic from Margalla Avenue moves to this road, there is going to be traffic congestion,” he explained.

Chairman CDA said, “I agree about the expected traffic congestion, but just yesterday, we made an important decision to construct 11th Avenue, which will provide a direct link to the under-construction E-11 road with Srinagar Highway,” adding that the CDA began surveying for 11th Avenue last week.

Moreover, Mengal added, “The survey will be completed within one month, and we will ensure that the 11th Avenue project begins as soon as possible.” He further stated, “We will provide some traffic solutions to avoid congestion on Khyabani-Iqbal.”

He told the media that the traffic load will be shared following the completion of 11th Avenue, which will connect to the Srinagar Highway and the IJP.
