In order to hasten the digitalization and networking process, a significant project has been launched in Pakistan to build a 16,000 km long fibre optic cable.

Tony Lee, the Chief Executive Officer of Sunwalk Pvt Limited, said this during the Kick-Off Ceremony held in Islamabad. He claims that Sunwalk is aiming to ensure rapid deployment while preserving ITU-T Standards-compliant quality.

“We are always committed to providing the best services in Pakistan,” he continued.

In a meeting about two months ago, the chairman of Sunwalk Group, Hou Xing Wang, informed Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Syed Amin ul Haque that the group will soon begin a project to install fibre cable across the nation with a significant investment.

Afshaan Malik, Chief Business Officer of Sunwalk Group Pakistan, stated in an official statement regarding the project that despite the nation’s current economic situation, Sunwalk has kept its promise by starting the national fibre backbone project, keeping in mind the long-term strategic relationship between Pakistan and China.

She continued, “In this regard, the groundbreaking of Phase 1 (Islamabad to Multan) to offer a statewide fibre backbone was done on Thursday. We are now formally releasing this excellent news for the people of Pakistan after the completion of the requisite formalities linked to the project.

According to Malik, Sunwalk is currently working with government agencies to obtain a right-of-way (ROW) so that we can start working right away. After receiving the ROW, we intend to invest $100 million, so this will allow us to move on with our project right away.

She continued, “Sunwalk Group has already invested $5 million in Khuzdar (Baluchistan), where there was no commercial fibre available.
