NADRA launches NADRA Ijazat Aap Ki, a revolutionary project that puts citizens in control of their personal data, to further ensure the security of citizens’ data. This service will allow citizens to provide consent prior to CNIC verification, ensuring that their sensitive information remains safe and secure at all times.

NADRA ensures the confidentiality of citizens’ data by implementing effective security measures. The authority has now taken an unprecedented step by granting residents real and effective ownership and limiting unauthorized access. The implementation of a multi-layered control mechanism demonstrates NADRA’s commitment to transitioning ID management from traditional security protocols to a digital consent regime.

Moreover, while launching the service, NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik stated that consent management is a digital mechanism according to the vision to protect citizens’ privacy and strengthen data security. “Your data is your personal property, and just like your physical property, citizens are from now onwards empowered to control access and protect against misuse or unwarranted use.”

“We are moving from a world where data is used against people to a digital realm where data is used to empower the citizens and give ownership rights of their own data. Citizen’s data is not for sale, it is a valuable asset, and NADRA protects it passionately. Informed consent will be required from citizens to use personal data by a product or service providers from now on,” the NADRA chairman stated.

Furthermore, to seek consent to proceed with data sharing, all verification transactions will now?require a 6-digit passcode sent to the citizen’s registered mobile number. The pin number will be presented for authentication and will be considered the citizen’s consent to have his/her ID number verified by NADRA.

At the time of ID card registration, NADRA?collects citizens’ mobile phone numbers. NADRA?has also launched an SMS service <8009> through which citizens can enrol their mobile phone numbers. Citizens can enrol their mobile number with NADRA by texting their 13-digit ID card number to the shortcode <8009>. ?The authority will respond by sending a confirmation message if the registration is successful.

Malik also stressed the importance of citizens remaining vigilant in keeping their private data secure and taking all essential measures to avoid identity theft and fraud.
