Ishaq Dar Appointed New Finance Minister Of Pakistan After Five Years In Self-Exile

Prominent member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Ishaq Dar was assigned the portfolio of finance and revenue on Wednesday, shortly after he took oath as federal minister.


President Dr Arif Alvi administered the oath to Dar during a ceremony at the Aiwan-i-Sadr, which was also attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.


The PML-N stalwart Ishaq Dar made his way back to Pakistan on Monday after a five-year self-imposed exile. 

Former finance minister Dar, who flew to London in the former prime minister’s plane, has now flown back to his native country with PM Shehbaz Sharif’s plane. 


Dar told reporters at the Nur Khan Airbase in Chaklala that PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and the prime minister had given him the finance ministry’s responsibilities. 


“I’ll do my best to meet all of my obligations. As we did in 1998 and 2013, we will attempt to rescue the nation from the economic tangle it is caught in. 


According to sources, Ishaq Dar will take the oath of office as a senator today (Tuesday), and the PML-N leader will also take over as finance minister tomorrow after Miftah Ismail resigned at the party leadership’s demand. 


The nomination of Mr. Dar as finance minister by Nawaz Sharif and PM Shehbaz was confirmed in a statement issued following the meeting. 

Ahad Cheema, Malik Mohammad Ahmed Khan, Ishaq Dar, and Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb were all present at the meeting, which was held in the PM’s apartment on Edgware Road. 


Ishaq DarÂ’s Arrest Warrants Suspended 


Ishaq Dar, a former finance minister, had many pending arrest warrants that were suspended by an accountability court on September 23 until he appeared in court on October 7.
