The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and TikTok have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the PTA Headquarters in Islamabad.

This collaboration aims to bolster digital safety in government schools across Pakistan through a comprehensive approach. The program involves educational sessions and guidelines for teachers, parents, and students, to be conducted through workshops, seminars, webinars, and awareness videos. The primary objective is to educate individuals about the responsible use of social media and address associated risks.

Prominent figures attending the event included Chairman PTA, Maj Gen (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, Director General (WAD), Director General (S&D), and representatives from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT).

The PTA Chairman emphasized the organization’s unwavering commitment to digital safety, underscoring the partnership with TikTok as evidence of PTA’s dedication to creating a more secure online environment.

In addition to this collaboration, the PTA extended the deadline for bid submissions for the “Invitation to Bids for Provision of Financial Management Application.” This extension aims to promote healthy competition and allows bids to be submitted until September 15, 2023. The technical bid will be opened on the same day at 11:30 AM.

Furthermore, the PTA has launched a “Device Identification Registration and Blocking System” (DIRBS) initiative to ensure the usage of compliant mobile devices in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB).

Mobile devices on the local networks in AJ&K and GB were included in the system from September 1, 2023. DIRBS aims to ensure compliance with rules and regulations, as well as technical standards for mobile devices.

Additionally, the PTA has introduced a “Temporary Mobile Registration System” to facilitate overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals visiting Pakistan. This initiative allows them to register and use their personal mobile phones for up to 120 days, exempt from duties and taxes. The system aims to promote communication and welcome foreign visitors.
