Dr Tasnim Ahsan Becomes First Pakistani Endocrinologist To Win Laureate Award

Endocrinologist Dr Tasnim Ahsan had been honoured with the Endocrine Society’s prestigious Laureate Award 2023; she had become the Pakistani to achieve the award. 


According to the media, a total of twelve health experts and professionals were nominated to be honoured this year under the Laureate Awards. The award marks the success of endocrine researchers and clinicians internationally, and Dr Ahsan is one of them. 


Dr Ahsan is the professor emerita at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and the founding dean of the Medical Institute of Diabetes Endocrinology & Metabolism in Karachi has been presented the “International Excellence in Endocrinology” for her remarkable contributions to the field in geographic areas with underdeveloped resources for hormone health research, education, clinical practice or administration. 


She is a worldwide renowned clinician and educator who has contributed a lot to the establishment and growth of the field of endocrinology in Pakistan. 


The doctor began her first endocrinology practice in the public sector hospital JPMC in 1993 and has given training to more than 100 postgraduate trainee doctors in internal medicine and endocrinology. 


She is keen to expand access to care and treats a large transgender community at the Medical Institute. In addition, she is also a founding member of the Pakistan Endocrine Society. 


Moreover, for 80 years, the Endocrine Society has acknowledged the commendable achievements of endocrine researchers and clinicians worldwide. These awards acknowledge endocrinologists for influential research, admirable service, innovation, leadership and mentorship, international contributions, translation of science to practice, public service, and lifetime achievement. 


Award categories give honour for the accomplishments of endocrinologists at all stages of their careers, recognizing those at the pinnacle of the field in addition to young endocrinologists who are making a mark. The commitment, dedication, and achievements of current and past award recipients have each grabbed a place in endocrine history.
