In comparison to the 0.27 million commercially imported mobile devices during the first three months of 2023, local manufacturing facilities produced or assembled 2.81 million of them.

According to the official data, 0.08 million mobile devices were commercially imported in March 2023, whereas 0.46 million were manufactured or assembled in local manufacturing facilities.

Local manufacturing facilities produced/assembled 21.94 million mobile phones in 2022 compared to 24.66 million in 2021, a decrease that can be attributed to problems with imports as a result of limiting the opening of letters of credit (LCs).

According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), there were approximately 21.94 million mobile handsets assembled during the year 2022 as opposed to 1.53 million commercially imported phone handsets.

2.81 million mobile phone handsets, including 2.24 million 2G and 0.67 million smartphones, were produced or assembled domestically.

In addition, 44% of mobile devices on the Pakistani network are 2G and 56% of them are smartphones, according to PTA data.

The amount of mobile phones imported by the government in the first nine months (July to March) of the current fiscal year 2022–23 was $ 462.701 million, down 71.01 percent from the $ 1.596 billion imported in the same time the year before.

Pakistan’s imports of mobile phones fell by 55.09 percent month over month (MoM) in March 2023 to $14.846 million from imports of $ 33.054 million in February 2023, according to data supplied by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

When compared to March 2022’s imports of mobile phones, which totaled $ 183.894 million, there was a 91.93 percent decline in growth year over year (YoY).
