By arranging a conference with notable religious experts here on Tuesday, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) made an important contribution to encouraging safe and ethical internet usage.

The occasion represented a joint initiative by the PTA and religious leaders to address the problems posed by social media and the internet while advancing a digital environment consistent with cultural and religious values.

Islamic experts from different schools of thought, including Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Dr. Qibla Ayaz, chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), and Maulana Tariq Jameel, among others, attended the gathering.

Senior PTA officers attended this event as well.

In his remarks to the audience, Chairman PTA Maj. Gen. Hafeezur Rehman (retired) emphasised the crucial role played by religious authorities in directing the populace towards moral and appropriate internet usage. He emphasised that PTA’s support from intellectuals on their own platforms may have an even greater impact.

There was a forum for active participation and conversation during the open-floor debate and recommendation session.

The emphasis on teaching the youth about responsible use of social media and the internet, particularly the crucial role that parents play in educating their children, was one of the meeting’s major highlights. The holy Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) teachings and the Quran were emphasised as the source of this endeavor’s illumination.

Given the seriousness of internet dangers including blasphemous and hate speech, it was highlighted that the State, judiciary, PTA, PEMRA, FIA, and individuals must all work together to confront them.

The  scholars informed the regulator of their full cooperation and support and expressed their gratitude for the PTA’s dedication to and efforts in encouraging safe and responsible internet usage. This conference is the first in a series where cooperation with recognised ulema will be required to address harmful and unlawful online content.
