Cda To Prepare Environmental Mitigation Plan For Sector I-15

In an effort to prevent soil erosion, water contamination, and air pollution in Sector I-15 in Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is creating an environmental mitigation plan.

Details revealed that the plan is required as the sector’s residential and business areas are predicted to produce 44 tonnes of solid trash every day.

Sector I-15 does not have a lot of fresh surface water, but the mitigation plan will help stop water contamination, which has become a problem since wastewater from residential and business districts upstream is mixed with it.

The Environmental Mitigation Plan will incorporate short-term solutions, such as building a wall to confine garbage and stop soil erosion.

As part of the proposal, several plants will be planted, such as Cassia artemisioides, Ballerina cristata, Buddleia asiatica, Hibiscus rosa sinensis, and Lantana indica to minimise soil erosion in the area. Moreover, due to the low population and traffic in the area as well as the lack of substantial pollution sources, the air quality can be regarded as good.

According to an official, sector I-15 would provide inhabitants with a healthy environment because it will be shielded from pollution sources by the mitigation plan.

It is important to note that the CDA purchased the sector’s land, as well as the adjacent sectors I-14 and I-16, in 1968. The CDA resolved the landowners’ concerns by compensating them fairly and allocating plots to the impacted parties.

Furthermore, groundwater is accessible in the area at a depth of 150–170 feet and is used for drinking as well as other domestic needs.

Earlier this year, the committee established to enhance the quality of life in Lahore met under the leadership of the commissioner of Lahore and the director general of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa.
