حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ أَسِيرُ بِالشَّامِ فَنَادَانِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ خَلْفِي، فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا رَجَاءُ بْنُ حَيْوَةَ، فَقَالَ: يَا أَبَا عَوْنٍ مَا هَذَا الَّذِي يَذْكُرُونَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: إِنَّهُمْ يَكْذِبُونَ عَلَى الْحَسَنِ كَثِيرًا .
ابن عون کہتے ہیں کہ میں ملک شام میں چل رہا تھا تو ایک شخص نے پیچھے سے مجھے پکارا جب میں مڑا تو دیکھا رجاء بن حیوہ ہیں، انہوں نے کہا: اے ابوعون! یہ کیا ہے جو لوگ حسن کے بارے میں ذکر کرتے ہیں؟ میں نے کہا: لوگ حسن پر بہت زیادہ جھوٹ باندھتے ہیں۱؎۔
Ibn Awn said: I was a prisoner in Syria. A man called me from behind. I turned towards him and suddenly found that it was Raja bin Haiwah. He said: Abu Awn, what is this that the people are telling about al-Hasan? I said: They are much lying to al-Hasan.

Abdullah bin Ka;b bin Malik who used to lead his father from among his sons when he became blind, said: I heard Kaab bin Malik say: The transmitter Ibn al-sarh then narrated the story of his remaining behind from the prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم forbade the Muslims to speak to any of us three. When ( in this state) abundant time passed on me, I ascended the wall of the garden of Abu Qatadah who was my cousin. I saluted him, but, I swear by Allah, he did not return salute to me. He then narrated the story of the revelation of the Quranic verses relating to his repentance.
