حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْمَقْبُرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي شُرَيْحٍ الْخُزَاعِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعَ أُذُنَايَ ، وَوَعَاهُ قَلْبِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : الضِّيَافَةُ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ جَائِزَتُهُ ، قِيلَ : مَا جَائِزَتُهُ ، قَالَ : يَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ ، وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ ، فَلْيُكْرِمْ ضَيْفَهُ ، وَمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ ، فَلْيَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيَسْكُتْ .

ہم سے ابوالولید نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے لیث بن سعد نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے سعید مقبری نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابوشریح خزاعی نے بیان کیا انہوں نے کہا کہ   میرے دونوں کانوں نے سنا ہے اور میرے دل نے یاد رکھا ہے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے یہ فرمایا تھا ”مہمانی تین دن کی ہوتی ہے مگر جو لازمی ہے وہ تو پوری کرو۔“ پوچھا گیا لازمی کتنی ہے؟ فرمایا کہ ایک دن اور ایک رات اور جو کوئی اللہ اور آخرت کے دن پر ایمان رکھتا ہے اسے چاہئے کہ اپنے مہمان کی خاطر کرے اور جو شخص اللہ اور آخرت کے دن پر ایمان رکھتا ہے اسے چاہئے کہ اچھی بات کہے ورنہ چپ رہے۔

Narrated Abu Shuraih Al-Khuza`i: My ears heard and my heart grasped (the statement which) the Prophet said, The period for keeping one's guest is three days (and don't forget) his reward. It was asked, What is his reward? He said, In the first night and the day he should be given a high class quality of meals; and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should entertain his guest generously; and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should talk what is good (sense) or keep quiet.

Narrated Mujahid: `Abdullah bin `Umar said, Allah's Apostle took hold of my shoulder and said, 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler. The sub-narrator added: Ibn `Umar used to say, If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death.
