White House On Pakistan Polls: “Ensure Transparent Election Process And Respect People’s Will”

The White House has stated that respecting the wishes of the Pakistani people and maintaining a transparent electoral process are important. US President Joe Biden is aware of the elections occurring in Pakistan, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters at her routine press briefing on Tuesday.

Of course, the president knows this well. Millions of Pakistanis went to the polls last week, and according to Jean-Pierre, record numbers of women, young people, and people from religious and ethnic minorities participated.

A party needs to get 133 of the 265 contested seats in the 266-member National Assembly in order to establish a government. “We are proud to stand with like-minded democracies,” Jean-Pierre remarked in answer to a query.

We have consistently made clear to the Pakistani administration and political spectrum in Pakistan, both in public and privately, how important it is to respect the decision of the people of Pakistan and ensure a transparent election process.

Pakistanis had a chance to voice their opinions last week, according to a statement from Senator Chris Murphy, the chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near East, South Asia, Central Asia, and Counterterrorism. Murphy also emphasised the importance of the results representing the wishes of the electorate.

Murphy expressed alarm over reports of anomalies and purported meddling, saying that he was disturbed by attacks on free speech and Internet access limitations, and that he agreed with the Biden administration’s demand that these allegations be well looked into.Defence Department spokesman Sabrina Singh of the Pentagon stated that the defence is keeping an eye on events in Pakistan.

Even in the face of widespread vote fraud, which needs to be investigated.

In place of Nawaz Sharif, the party’s three-time previous prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif was the PML-N’s nominee for prime minister on Tuesday. This occurred just hours after PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari announced his party’s decision to back former prime minister Nawaz Sharif even if he was not included in the next administration.

Allegations of horse-trading in the lack of a clear majority have tainted Pakistan’s election process.
