Nepra Indicates Another Tariff Hike Of Rs 1.90

NEPRA has indicated that electricity tariff would go up by Rs.1.90 percent under Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for the month of May 2023. 

At the time when the rate inflation is 38 percent in the country which is historically high, the government’s measures do not match with its big claims to control the inflation as the prices of items which mainly cause the price hike of very thing are raised after the small intervals of time.  


The rates of gas, electricity and petrol have been increasing rapidly, putting the people of Pakistan under big financial crises. Not only the domestic users but the industrialists too use to complaint about the big hike in the prices of gas, electricity and petrol, causing the closure of a number of industrial units which are ultimately spreading the unemployment in the country. 


On Wednesday, the National Electric Power regulatory Authority (Nepra) indicated that electricity tariff would go up by Rs.1.90 percent under Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for the month of May 2023.


The financial burden on the consumers would come to Rs.22.6 billion. Only for the consumers of K-Electric, the Nepra indicated a tariff hike of Rs.1.45 per unit. With this increase, the K-Electric consumers will pay additional Rs.2.6 billion. 


Nepra had notified an increase of Rs.1.25 per unit of electricity tariff as third-quarter for the previous fiscal year, putting the burden of Rs.56.5 billion on the consumers only a day ago. ?As per statement of Nepra issued on Wednesday, a public hearing was conducted on a petition, filed on behalf of ex-Wapda distribution companies. 


The Central Purchasing Agency-Guarantee (CPPA-G) requested a Fuel Cost Adjustment of Rs.2.05 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for the May 2023. Nepra said that the net FCA for that month as per preliminary calculation was Rs.1.90 per kWh.
