The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has finally agreed to resume construction of the Margalla Town underpass, which was stopped last month while the design was improved.

According to a CDA senior officer, some changes have been made to the design of the underpass to improve it, and the civic agency will soon resume its construction work.

He stated that the underpass’s location will not change, and construction will resume, adding that the Marglla Town service road will be dualized to allow for proper use of the underpass.

“We are not only going to restart the underpass but the service road will be dualised and expansion of Garden Avenue from 7th Avenue to Murree Road/Rawal Road flyover will also be carried out.” This issue will also be discussed at the scheduled CDA-Development Working Party meeting, the officer added.

Moreover, the officer said that the DWP meeting was supposed to take place last Friday, but it was postponed for a few days and is now expected to take place within two days. Aside from the aforementioned service road, the DWP will also approve an Rs 10 billion mega project for rural development, sources reported.

The multi-million rupee Margalla Town underpass project was abruptly halted last month after the civic agency discovered technical flaws in its own approved design after starting work and spending millions of rupees on it.

The project was launched in 2020 as part of the Rawal Town interchange project, and it has already cost millions of rupees.

Meanwhile, residents of Margalla Town had expressed their dissatisfaction with the civic agency’s decision to halt construction work on the project, and they had also written to the prime minister requesting intervention.

It is to be mentioned that this underpass is part of the interchange and flyover project.

The Rs 380 million underpass project was started in 2020 and significant progress was made last year. Almost Rs 100 million has already been spent on this project.
