The Pakistan Navy Engineering College-National University of Sciences and Technology (PNEC-NUST) celebrated the unveiling of their formula electric racing car at a local hotel.
The creation of this electric vehicle (EV) has been an inspiring and motivating journey, as showcased in the videos prepared by the students during the unveiling ceremony.
?The Formula Student competition is an annual engineering event held worldwide, where student teams design, build, test, and race small-scale formula-style racing cars.
In 2012, PNEC students represented Pakistan in a Formula Student competition in Germany. However, the car they built did not pass the technical inspection, preventing them from participating in the event.
Despite facing challenges, the students continued to compete in other competitions. Unfortunately, their progress was halted first by the Covid-19 pandemic and later due to visa issues.
Nevertheless, the graduating batches made sure to train their juniors in designing and producing a better car before leaving PNEC. Now, in 2023, they proudly present a formula racing car that is also an electric vehicle.?
This latest version runs on a 350V battery, which requires two hours to charge.
The EV, along with its 14-member team from Formula Electric Racing NUST (FERN), is fully prepared to participate in the upcoming Formula Student 2023 event in the United Kingdom, scheduled for July.
The team consists of seven girls and seven boys from the electrical and mechanical departments of the seventh and eighth terms.
?Additionally, there are 25 trainees working alongside the team who will continue the project after the core team graduates from PNEC-NUST.
Bilal Mohammed Khan, a faculty adviser and associate professor at PNEC-NUST, expressed his admiration for the team and mentioned that both girls and boys are part of the core team as drivers for the EV.?
He highlighted their lightweight build, similar to jockeys, to ensure optimal performance.
Khan praised the dedication and hard work of the team, particularly noting the commitment of the girls who willingly stay late at night to complete their work.
