Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab Chaudhary Parvez Elahi laid the foundation stones for three mega road infrastructure projects in Gujrat which are intended to be developed with an accumulative estimated cost of PKR 13 billion, news sources reported.
According to the details shared, these projects comprise a 29-kilometer-long expressway that will link Kharian-Sambrial Motorway with Gujrat city and two main flyovers starting from the Chenab Rivers side and ending at Gujrat citys entrance. The cost for the highway is estimated at PKR 9.11 billion, whereas both flyovers will be developed with PKR 4 billion.
Meanwhile, Mujahid Sher Dil, Communication and Works Secretary, briefed the CM on the key features of the project during the foundation stone laying ceremony.?It was further highlighted that Both flyovers were approved by the federal government two years ago as part of the Samman-Dinga road project.
It was also revealed that one flyover will be built over the citys entrance at Bypass Chowk, near River Chenab bridge, which will be connecting the national highway with an under-construction 35-kilometre-long Samman-Dinga Road. The other will be constructed over the Kathala railway crossing on old GT Road.
Sources reported that the projects will be carried out by Punjab Communications and Works, with the federal government providing the initial funding. MNA Moonis Elahi, who was also present at the event, said that the expressway will benefit local traders by providing a direct link to the motorway.
In another development, the Punjab government gave approval to different projects for the rehabilitation of roads in various districts of the province at an accumulated cost of Rs 10.476 billion.
During the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) meeting, the following uplift projects were approved:
Rehabilitation of the road from Jhang-Shorkot-Kabirwala Road Adda Doli Shaheed to Toba Tek Singh (Majhi Sultan Road) in Jhang District at a cost of PKR 2,941.186 million.
Rehabilitation of Jhang-Shorkot Kabirwala Road Adda Doli Shaheed to Toba Tek Singh (Majhi Sultan Road) in Jhang District, at an estimated cost of Rs 1,869.889 million
Construction of Mujahid Dam District Rawalpindi, costing Rs 1,719.619 million
Construction of Highways in Residential Colony Multan, costing Rs 1,263.168 million
