أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا بَحِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، قَالَ: أُهْدِيَتْ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَغْلَةٌ شَهْبَاءُ فَرَكِبَهَا وَأَخَذَ عُقْبَةُ يَقُودُهَا بِهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِعُقْبَةَ: اقْرَأْ ، قَالَ: وَمَا أَقْرَأُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ: اقْرَأْ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ ، فَأَعَادَهَا عَلَيَّ حَتَّى قَرَأْتُهَا فَعَرَفَ أَنِّي لَمْ أَفْرَحْ بِهَا جِدًّا، قَالَ: لَعَلَّكَ تَهَاوَنْتَ بِهَا، فَمَا قُمْتُ يَعْنِي بِمِثْلِهَا .
عقبہ بن عامر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس ایک سفید اونٹنی تحفے میں آئی۔ آپ اس پر سوار ہوئے اور میں نے اس کی نکیل پکڑ کر چلنا شروع کیا، پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے عقبہ سے فرمایا: ”پڑھو“، وہ بولے: اللہ کے رسول! کیا پڑھوں؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”پڑھو « قل أعوذ برب الفلق * من شر ما خلق» آپ نے اسے دہرایا یہاں تک کہ میں نے بھی اسے پڑھا، پھر آپ نے جان لیا کہ میں اس سے کچھ زیادہ خوش نہیں ہوا۔ ( چنانچہ ) آپ نے فرمایا: شاید تم نے اسے بہت ہلکا سمجھا۔ لیکن مجھے ( پناہ مانگنے کے لیے ) اس جیسی سورۃ نہیں ملی۔
It was narrated that 'Uqbah bin 'Amir said: The Prophet [SAW] was given a gray mule which he rode, and 'Uqbah led it. The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to 'Uqbah: 'Recite.' He said: 'What should I recite, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Recite: 'Say: I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of the daybreak, from the evil of what He has created.' And he repeated it until I had learned it.

It was narrated that Humaid bin Hilal said: Abu Rifa'ah said: 'I came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] while he was delivering a Khutbah, and said: O Messenger of Allah, a stranger has come to ask about his religion, for he does not know what his religion is. The Messenger of Allah [SAW] stopped delivering his Khutbah and turned to me. A chair was brought, and I think its legs were of iron. The Messenger of Allah [SAW] sat down on it and started to teach me what Allah has taught him, then he went and completed his Khutbah.'
