The Book of Seeking Refuge with Allah

عبدالرحمٰن بن یزید کہتے ہیں کہ   لوگوں نے ایک دن عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ سے بہت سارے موضوعات پر بات چیت کی، عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: ہم پر ایک زمانہ ایسا بھی گزر چکا ہے کہ ہم نہ تو کوئی فیصلہ کرتے تھے اور نہ ہی فیصلہ کرنے کے قابل تھے، پھر اللہ تعالیٰ نے ہمارے لیے مقدر کر رکھا تھا کہ ہم اس مقام کو پہنچے جو تم دیکھ رہے ہو، لہٰذا آج کے بعد سے جس کسی کو فیصلہ کرنے کی ضرورت آ پڑے تو چاہیئے کہ وہ اس کے مطابق فیصلہ کرے جو اللہ کی کتاب ( قرآن ) میں ہے، پھر اگر ایسا کوئی معاملہ اسے درپیش آئے جو کتاب اللہ ( قرآن ) میں نہ ہو تو اس کے مطابق فیصلہ کرے جو نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کیا تھا، اور اگر کوئی ایسا معاملہ ہو جو نہ کتاب اللہ ( قرآن ) میں ہو اور نہ اس سلسلے میں نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا کوئی فیصلہ ہو تو اس کے مطابق فیصلہ کرے جو نیک لوگوں نے کیا ہو ۱؎، اور اگر کوئی ایسا معاملہ آئے جو نہ کتاب اللہ ( قرآن ) میں ہو، نہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا اس سلسلے میں کوئی فیصلہ ہو اور نہ ہی نیک لوگوں کا ) تو اسے چاہیئے کہ اپنی عقل سے اجتہاد کرے اور یہ نہ کہے کہ مجھے ڈر ہے، مجھے ڈر ہے، کیونکہ حلال واضح ہے اور حرام واضح ہے اور ان کے درمیان کچھ مشتبہ چیزیں ہیں تو تم ان باتوں کو چھوڑ دو جو تمہیں شک میں ڈالیں اور وہ کرو جو شک سے بالاتر ہوں۔ ابوعبدالرحمٰن ( نسائی ) کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث بہت اچھی ہے۔

It was narrated that 'Abdur-Rahman bin Yazid said: The people asked 'Abdullah too many questions one day, and 'Abdullah said: 'There was a time when we did not pass so many judgments, but now that time is over. Now Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has decreed that we reach a time when, as you see, (we are asked to pass many judgments). Whoever among you is asked to pass a judgment after this day, let him pass judgment according to what is in the Book of Allah. If he is faced with a matter that is not mentioned in the Book of Allah, let him pass judgment according to the way His Prophet [SAW] passed judgment. If he is faced with a matter that is not mentioned in the Book of Allah and concerning which His Prophet did not pass judgment, then let him pass judgment according to the way the righteous passed judgment. If he is faced with a matter that is not mentioned in the Book of Allah, and concerning which His Prophet and the righteous did not pass judgment, then let him strive to work it out, and let him not say 'I am afraid, I am afraid.' For that which is lawful is clear and that which is unlawful is clear, and between them are matters which are not as clear. Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt.'
