أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّلْتِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُدَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ وَلا تَقْرَبُوا مَالَ الْيَتِيمِ إِلا بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ سورة الأنعام آية 152، وَ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَأْكُلُونَ أَمْوَالَ الْيَتَامَى ظُلْمًا سورة النساء آية 10، قَالَ: اجْتَنَبَ النَّاسُ مَالَ الْيَتِيمِ وَطَعَامَهُ فَشَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ، فَشَكَوْا ذَلِكَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ: وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْيَتَامَى قُلْ إِصْلاحٌ لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ سورة البقرة آية 220، إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: لأَعْنَتَكُمْ سورة البقرة آية 220.
عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ جب آیت کریمہ: «ولا تقربوا مال اليتيم إلا بالتي هي أحسن» ”یتیم کے مال کے قریب نہ جاؤ مگر اس طریقے سے جو کہ مستحسن ہو ( یہاں تک کہ وہ اپنے سن رشد کو پہنچ جائے ) “ ( الأنعام: ۱۵۲ ) اور «إن الذين يأكلون أموال اليتامى ظلما» ”اور جو لوگ یتیموں کا مال ظلم و زیادتی کر کے کھاتے ہیں ( وہ دراصل مال نہیں کھاتے وہ اپنے پیٹوں میں انگارے بھر رہے ہیں“ ( النساء: ۱۰ ) نازل ہوئی تو لوگ یتیموں کے مال کے قریب جانے ( اور ان کی حفاظت کی ذمہ داریاں سنبھالنے ) اور ان کا مال کھانے سے بچنے لگے۔ تو یہ چیز مسلمانوں پر شاق ( دشوار ) ہو گئی، چنانچہ لوگوں نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے اس کی شکایت کی جس پر اللہ تعالیٰ نے آیت کریمہ: «ويسألونك عن اليتامى قل إصلاح لهم خير» سے «لأعنتكم» ”اور تم سے یتیموں کے بارے میں بھی سوال کرتے ہیں۔ آپ کہہ دیجئیے کہ ان کی خیر خواہی بہتر ہے اگر تم ان کا مال اپنے مال میں ملا بھی لو تو وہ تمہارے بھائی ہیں۔ بدنیت اور نیک نیت ہر ایک کو اللہ خوب جانتا ہے۔ اور اگر اللہ چاہتا تو تمہیں مشقت میں ڈال دیتا، یقیناً اللہ تعالیٰ غلبہ اور حکمت والا ہے“ ( البقرہ: ۲۲۰ ) تک نازل فرمائی ۳؎۔
It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: When these Verses were revealed - 'And come not near to the orphan's property, except to improve it,' and 'Verily, those who unjustly eat up the property of orphans' - the people avoided the property and food of the orphans. That caused hardship to the Muslims and they complained about that to the Prophet. Then Allah revealed: 'And they ask you concerning orphans. Say: The best thing is to work honestly in their property, and if you mix your affairs with theirs, then they are your brothers. And Allah knows him who means mischief (e.g. to swallow their property) from him who means good (e.g. to save their property). And if Allah had wished, He could have put you into difficulties.'

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: A man came to the Prophet and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what kind of charity brings the greatest reward?' He said: 'To give in charity when you are healthy and feeling miserly, and fearing poverty and hoping for a long life. Do not wait until the (death rattle) reaches the throat and then say: This is for so and so, and it nearly became the property of so and so (the heirs).'

The son of Adam says: 'My wealth, my wealth,' but your wealth is what you eat and consume, or what you wear and it wears out, or what you give in charity and send on ahead (for the Hereafter).'

Abu Ad-Darda' was asked about that, and he narrated that the Prophet said: 'The likeness of the one who frees a slave or gives some charity when he is dying, is that of a man who gives a gift after he has eaten his fill.'
