أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: أَنْبَأَنَا عَفَّانُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ نَفَرًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: لَا أَتَزَوَّجُ النِّسَاءَ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: لَا آكُلُ اللَّحْمَ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: لَا أَنَامُ عَلَى فِرَاشٍ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: أَصُومُ فَلَا أُفْطِرُ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ، وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: مَا بَالُ أَقْوَامٍ يَقُولُونَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ؟ لَكِنِّي أُصَلِّي، وَأَنَامُ، وَأَصُومُ، وَأُفْطِرُ، وَأَتَزَوَّجُ النِّسَاءَ، فَمَنْ رَغِبَ عَنْ سُنَّتِي، فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي .
انس رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے صحابہ کی ایک جماعت میں سے بعض نے کہا: میں نکاح ( شادی بیاہ ) نہیں کروں گا، بعض نے کہا: میں گوشت نہ کھاؤں گا، بعض نے کہا: میں بستر پر نہ سوؤں گا، بعض نے کہا: میں مسلسل روزے رکھوں گا، کھاؤں پیوں گا نہیں، یہ خبر رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو پہنچی تو آپ نے ( لوگوں کے سامنے ) اللہ کی حمد و ثنا بیان کی اور فرمایا: ”لوگوں کو کیا ہو گیا ہے، جو اس طرح کی باتیں کرتے ہیں۔ ( مجھے دیکھو ) میں نماز پڑھتا ہوں اور سوتا بھی ہوں، روزہ رکھتا ہوں اور کھاتا پیتا بھی ہوں، اور عورتوں سے شادیاں بھی کرتا ہوں۔ ( سن لو ) جو شخص میری سنت سے اعراض کرے ( میرے طریقے پر نہ چلے ) سمجھ لو وہ ہم میں سے نہیں ہے“۔
Narrated Anas: It was narrated from Anas that there was a group of the Companions of the Prophet, one of whom said: I will not marry women. Another said: I will not eat meat. Another said: I will not sleep on a bed. Another said: I will fast and not break my fast. News of that reached the Messenger of Allah and he praised Allah then said: What is the matter with people who say such and such? But I pray and I sleep, I fast and I break my fast, and I marry women. Whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not of me.

Narrated 'Ata': It was narrated that 'Ata' said: We attended the funeral of Maimunah, the wife of the Prophet, with Ibn 'Abbas in Sarif. Narrated Sahl bin Sa'd: It was narrated that Sahl bin Sa'd said: I was among the people when a woman said: 'I offer myself (in marriage) to you, O Messenger of Allah, see what you think of me.' A man stood up and said: 'Marry me to her.' He said: 'Go and find (something), even if it is an iron ring.' So he went, but he could not find anything, not even an iron ring. So the Messenger of Allah said: 'Do you have (memorized) any surahs of the Qur'an?' He said: 'Yes.' So he married him to her on the basis of what he knew of surahs of the Qur'an.
