أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، قَالَ: أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ بِبِئْرِ بَدْرٍ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَائِمٌ يُنَادِي يَا أَبَا جَهْلِ بْنَ هِشَامٍ، وَيَا شَيْبَةُ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ، وَيَا عُتْبَةُ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ، وَيَا أُمَيَّةَ بْنَ خَلَفٍ، هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا، فَإِنِّي وَجَدْتُ مَا وَعَدَنِي رَبِّي حَقًّا ، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَوَ تُنَادِي قَوْمًا قَدْ جَيَّفُوا، فَقَالَ: مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا أَقُولُ مِنْهُمْ وَلَكِنَّهُمْ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ أَنْ يُجِيبُوا .
انس رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ مسلمانوں نے رات کو بدر کے کنویں پر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو کھڑے آواز لگاتے سنا: ”اے ابوجہل بن ہشام! اے شیبہ بن ربیعہ! اے عتبہ بن ربیعہ! اور اے امیہ بن خلف! کیا تم سے تمہارے رب نے جو وعدہ کیا تھا اسے تم نے صحیح پایا؟، میں نے تو اپنے رب کے وعدہ کو صحیح پایا“، لوگوں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! آپ ان لوگوں کو پکارتے ہیں جو محض بدبودار لاش ہیں؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جو میں کہہ رہا ہوں اسے تم ان سے زیادہ نہیں سن سکتے، لیکن ( فرق صرف اتنا ہے کہ ) وہ جواب نہیں دے سکتے“۔
It was narrated that Anas said: During the night, the Muslims heard the Messenger of Allah standing and calling out at the well of badr; 'O Abu Jahl bin Hisham! O Shaaibh bin Rabiah! O 'Utbah bin Rabiah! O Umayyah bin Khalaf! Have you found what your Lord promised to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, are you calling out to people who have turned into rotten corpses?' He said: 'You do not hear what I say any better than they do, but they cannot answer.'

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: None of you should wish for death. Either he is a doer of good, so perhaps he may do more good, or he is an evildoer but perhaps he will give up his evil ways.
