حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، وَسُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْعَتَكِيُّ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ غَيْلَانَ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ، قَالَ: أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَسْتَحْمِلُهُ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَسْتَاكُ عَلَى لِسَانِهِ ، قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد: وَقَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ: قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَسْتَاكُ، وَقَدْ وَضَعَ السِّوَاكَ عَلَى طَرَفِ لِسَانِهِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: آهْ آهْ يَعْنِي يَتَهَوَّعُ، قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد: قَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ: فَكَانَ حَدِيثًا طَوِيلًا، وَلَكِنِّي اخْتَصَرْتُهُ.
ابوموسیٰ اشعری (عبداللہ بن قیس) رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں ( مسدد کی روایت میں ہے کہ ) ہم سواری طلب کرنے کے لیے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آئے، دیکھا کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنی زبان پر مسواک پھیر رہے ہیں۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: اور سلیمان کی روایت میں ہے: میں نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم مسواک کر رہے تھے، اور مسواک کو اپنی زبان کے کنارے پر رکھ کر فرماتے تھے اخ اخ جیسے آپ قے کر رہے ہوں۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: مسدد نے کہا: حدیث لمبی تھی مگر میں نے اس کو مختصر کر دیا ہے۔
Narrated Abu Burdah: On the authority of his father ( Abu Musa al-Ashari), reported (according to the version of Musaddad): We came to the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم to provide us with a mount, and found him using the tooth-stick, its one end being at his tongue (i. e. he wsa rinsing his mouth). According to the version of Sulaiman it goes: I entered upon the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم who was using the tooth-stick, and had it placed at one side of his tongue, producing a gurgling sound. Abu Dawud said: Musaddad said that the tradition was a lengthy but he shortened it.

Abu al-Tayyah reported on the authority of a shaykh (an old man): When Abdullah ibn Abbas came to Basrah, people narrated to him traditions from Abu Musa. Therefore Ibn Abbas wrote to him asking him about certain things. In reply Abu Musa wrote to him saying: One day I was in the company of theMessenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم. He wanted to urinate. Then he came to a soft ground at the foot of a wall and urinated. He (the Prophet) then said: If any of you wants to urinate, he should look for a place (like this) for his urination.

Anas bin Malik reported: When the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم entered the toilet, he used to say (before entering): O Allaah, I seek refuge in Thee. This is according to the version of Hammad. Abd al-Warith has another version: I seek refuge in Allaah from male and female devils.
