حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنِّي قَدْ وَهَبْتُ نَفْسِي لَكَ، فَقَامَتْ قِيَامًا طَوِيلًا، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، زَوِّجْنِيهَا إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: هَلْ عِنْدَكَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ تُصْدِقُهَا إِيَّاهُ ؟ فَقَالَ: مَا عِنْدِي إِلَّا إِزَارِي هَذَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِنَّكَ إِنْ أَعْطَيْتَهَا إِزَارَكَ جَلَسْتَ وَلَا إِزَارَ لَكَ فَالْتَمِسْ شَيْئًا ، قَالَ: لَا أَجِدُ شَيْئًا، قَالَ: فَالْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ ، فَالْتَمَسَ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ شَيْئًا، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: فَهَلْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا، لِسُوَرٍ سَمَّاهَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: قَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ .
سہل بن سعد ساعدی رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں ایک عورت حاضر ہوئی اور اس نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! میں نے اپنے آپ کو آپ کے لیے ہبہ کر دیا ہے، پھر وہ کافی دیر کھڑی رہی ( اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کوئی جواب نہیں دیا ) تو ایک شخص کھڑا ہوا اور کہنے لگا: اللہ کے رسول! اگر آپ کو حاجت نہیں تو اس سے میرا نکاح کرا دیجئیے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: کیا تمہارے پاس اسے مہر میں ادا کرنے کے لیے کچھ ہے؟ وہ بولا: میرے اس تہبند کے علاوہ میرے پاس کچھ بھی نہیں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اگر تم اپنا ازار اسے ( مہر میں ) دے دو گے تو تمہارے پاس تو ازار بھی نہیں رہے گا، لہٰذا کوئی اور چیز تلاش کرو ، وہ بولا: اور تو کچھ بھی نہیں ہے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تلاش کرو چاہے لوہے کی انگوٹھی ہی کیوں نہ ہو ، تو اس نے تلاش کیا لیکن اسے کچھ نہ ملا تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس سے پوچھا: کیا تجھے کچھ قرآن یاد ہے؟ کہنے لگا: ہاں فلاں فلاں سورتیں یاد ہیں، ان کا نام لے کر اس نے بتایا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس سے کہا: جو کچھ تجھے قرآن یاد ہے اسی کے ( یاد کرانے کے ) بدلے میں نے اس کے ساتھ تیرا نکاح کر دیا ۱؎ ۔
Narrated Sahl bin Saad al-Saeedi: A woman came to the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم and said: Messenger of Allah, I have offered myself to you. When she stood for a long time, a man got up and said: Messenger of Allah, marry her to me if you have no need for her. The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم asked: Have you anything to give her as dower ? He replied: I have nothing by this lower garment of mine. The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: If you give your lower garment, you will sit while you have no lower garment. So look for something else. He said: I do not find anything. He said: Look for something, even though it should be an iron ring. The man sought it but found nothing. The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: Do you know anything from the Quran ? He said: Yes, I know surah so and so, which he named. The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: I have given you her in marriage for the part of the Quran which you know.

Alqamah said “I was going with Abd Allaah bin Masud at Mina where Uthman met him and desired to have a talk with him in privacy”. When Abd Allaah (bin Masud) thought there was no need of privacy, he said to me “Come, Alqamah So I came (to him)”. Then Uthman said to him “Should we not marry you, Abu Abd Al Rahman to a virgin girl, so that the power you have lost may return to you?” Abd Allaah (bin Masud) said “If you say that, I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say “ Those of you who can support a wife, should marry, for it keeps you from looking at strange women and preserve from unlawful intercourse, but those who cannot should devote themselves to fasting, for it is a means of suppressing sexual desire.
