حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ ابْنَا أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: مَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ، فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ ، قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد: وَرُوِيَ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ وَغَيْرِهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، تَيَمَّمَ ثُمَّ رَدَّ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ السَّلَامَ.
عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ( ایک دن ) پیشاب کر رہے تھے ( کہ اسی حالت میں ) ایک شخص آپ کے پاس سے گزرا اور اس نے آپ کو سلام کیا، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس کے سلام کا جواب نہیں دیا۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: ابن عمر وغیرہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے تیمم کیا، پھر اس آدمی کے سلام کا جواب دیا۔
Narrated Ibn Umar: A man passed by the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم while he was urinating, and saluted him. The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم did not return the salutation to him. Abu Dawud said: It is narrated on the authority of Ibn Umar that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم performed tayammum, then he returned the salutation to the man.

Abu al-Tayyah reported on the authority of a shaykh (an old man): When Abdullah ibn Abbas came to Basrah, people narrated to him traditions from Abu Musa. Therefore Ibn Abbas wrote to him asking him about certain things. In reply Abu Musa wrote to him saying: One day I was in the company of theMessenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم. He wanted to urinate. Then he came to a soft ground at the foot of a wall and urinated. He (the Prophet) then said: If any of you wants to urinate, he should look for a place (like this) for his urination.
