حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمِّي، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَظْعُونٍ، فَجَاءَهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا عُثْمَانُ، أَرَغِبْتَ عَنْ سُنَّتِي ؟ قَالَ: لَا وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، وَلَكِنْ سُنَّتَكَ أَطْلُبُ، قَالَ: فَإِنِّي أَنَامُ، وَأُصَلِّي، وَأَصُومُ، وَأُفْطِرُ، وَأَنْكِحُ النِّسَاءَ، فَاتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَا عُثْمَانُ فَإِنَّ لِأَهْلِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا، وَإِنَّ لِضَيْفِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا، وَإِنَّ لِنَفْسِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا، فَصُمْ وَأَفْطِرْ، وَصَلِّ وَنَمْ .
ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے عثمان بن مظعون رضی اللہ عنہ کو بلا بھیجا، تو وہ آپ کے پاس آئے تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: عثمان! کیا تم نے میرے طریقے سے بے رغبتی کی ہے؟ ، انہوں نے جواب دیا: نہیں اللہ کے رسول! اللہ کی قسم، ایسی بات نہیں، میں تو آپ ہی کی سنت کا طالب رہتا ہوں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: میں تو سوتا بھی ہوں، نماز بھی پڑھتا ہوں، روزے بھی رکھتا ہوں اور نہیں بھی رکھتا، اور عورتوں سے نکاح بھی کرتا ہوں، عثمان! تم اللہ سے ڈرو، کیونکہ تم پر تمہاری بیوی کا حق ہے، تمہارے مہمان کا بھی حق ہے، تمہاری جان کا حق ہے، لہٰذا کبھی روزہ رکھو اور کبھی نہ رکھو، اسی طرح نماز پڑھو اور سویا بھی کرو ۱؎ ۔
Narrated Aishah: The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم called Uthman bin Maz'un. When he came to him, he said: Uthman, did you dislike my practice ? He said: No, by Allah, but I seek your practice. He said: I sleep, I pray, I keep fast, I (sometimes) leave fast, and I marry women. Fear Allah, Uthman, your wife has a right on you, your guest has a right on you, your self has a right on you ; you should keep fast and (sometimes) leave fast, and pray and sleep.

Narrated Umm Habibah: The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم as saying: If anyone prays in a day and a night twelve rak'ahs voluntarily (supererogatory prayer), a house will be built from him in Paradise on account of these (rak'ahs).

Narrated Abdullah bin Shaqiq: I asked Aishah about the voluntary prayers offered by the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم. She replied: Before the noon prayer he would pray four rak'ahs in my house, then go out and lead the people in prayer, then return to my house and pray two rak'ahs. He would lead the people in the sunset prayer, then return to my house and pray two rak'ahs. Then he would lead the people in the night prayer, and enter my house and pray two rak'ahs. He would pray nine rak'ahs during the night, including witr (prayer). At night he would pray for a long time standing and for a long time sitting. When he recited the Quran while standing, he would bow and prostrate himself from the standing position, and when he recited while sitting, he would bow and prostrate himself from the sitting position, and when dawn came he prayed two rak'ahs, then he would come out and lead the people in the dawn prayer.

Narrated Abdullah bin Umar: The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم would pray two rak'ahs before and two after the noon prayer, two after the sunset prayer in his house, and two after the night prayer. He would not pray afte the Friday prayer till he departed. He would then pray two rak'ahs.
