حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مَالِكَ بْنَ عُرْفُطَةَ، سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ خَيْرٍ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أُتِيَ بِكُرْسِيٍّ فَقَعَدَ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِكُوزٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ تَمَضْمَضَ مَعَ الِاسْتِنْشَاقِ بِمَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ.
عبد خیر کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے علی رضی اللہ عنہ کو دیکھا ( ان کے پاس ) ایک کرسی لائی گئی، وہ اس پر بیٹھے پھر پانی کا ایک کوزہ ( برتن ) لایا گیا تو ( اس سے ) آپ نے تین بار اپنا ہاتھ دھویا پھر ایک ہی چلو سے کلی کی اور ناک میں پانی ڈالا، پھر راوی نے پوری حدیث ذکر کی۔
Malik bin Ghurfatah says: I heard Abd Khair say: I saw a chair was brought to Ali who sat on it. A vessel of water was then brought to him. He washed his hands three times ; he then rinsed his mouth and snuffed up water with one handful of water. He narrated the tradition completely.

Abu al-Tayyah reported on the authority of a shaykh (an old man): When Abdullah ibn Abbas came to Basrah, people narrated to him traditions from Abu Musa. Therefore Ibn Abbas wrote to him asking him about certain things. In reply Abu Musa wrote to him saying: One day I was in the company of theMessenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم. He wanted to urinate. Then he came to a soft ground at the foot of a wall and urinated. He (the Prophet) then said: If any of you wants to urinate, he should look for a place (like this) for his urination.

Anas bin Malik reported: When the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم entered the toilet, he used to say (before entering): O Allaah, I seek refuge in Thee. This is according to the version of Hammad. Abd al-Warith has another version: I seek refuge in Allaah from male and female devils.
