حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ وَرْدَانَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، حَدَّثَنِي حُمْرَانُ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ تَوَضَّأَ، فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ الْمَضْمَضَةَ وَالِاسْتِنْشَاقَ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ: وَمَسَحَ رَأْسَهُ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ غَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ هَكَذَا، وَقَالَ: مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ دُونَ هَذَا كَفَاهُ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ أَمْرَ الصَّلَاةِ.
حمران کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے عثمان بن عفان رضی اللہ عنہ کو وضو کرتے دیکھا، پھر اس حدیث کے ہم معنی حدیث ذکر کی، مگر کلی کرنے اور ناک میں پانی ڈالنے کا تذکرہ نہیں کیا، حمران نے کہا: عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ نے اپنے سر کا تین بار مسح کیا پھر دونوں پاؤں تین بار دھوئے، اس کے بعد آپ نے کہا: میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو اسی طرح وضو کرتے ہوئے دیکھا، اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جو شخص اس سے کم وضو کرے گا ( یعنی ایک ایک یا دو دو بار اعضاء دھوئے گا ) تو بھی کافی ہے ، یہاں پر نماز کے معاملہ کا ذکر نہیں کیا۔
Humran said: I saw Uthman bin Affan performing ablution. He then narrated the same tradition. In this version there is no mention of rinsing the mouth and snuffing up water. This traditions adds: “He wiped his head three times. He then washed his feet three times. He then said: I saw the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم performing ablution in like manner. He (the Prophet) said: He who performs ablution less than this, it is sufficient for him. 73The narrator did not mention prayer (in this version).

Abu al-Tayyah reported on the authority of a shaykh (an old man): When Abdullah ibn Abbas came to Basrah, people narrated to him traditions from Abu Musa. Therefore Ibn Abbas wrote to him asking him about certain things. In reply Abu Musa wrote to him saying: One day I was in the company of theMessenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم. He wanted to urinate. Then he came to a soft ground at the foot of a wall and urinated. He (the Prophet) then said: If any of you wants to urinate, he should look for a place (like this) for his urination.
