سِرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَانَ قُوتُ كُلِّ رَجُلٍ مِنَّا فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ تَمْرَةً فَكَانَ يَمَصُّهَا ثُمَّ يَصُرُّهَا فِي ثَوْبِهِ وَكُنَّا نَخْتَبِطُ بِقِسِيِّنَا وَنَأْكُلُ حَتَّى قَرِحَتْ أَشْدَاقُنَا فَأُقْسِمُ أُخْطِئَهَا رَجُلٌ مِنَّا يَوْمًا فَانْطَلَقْنَا بِهِ نَنْعَشُهُ فَشَهِدْنَا أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُعْطَهَا فَأُعْطِيَهَا فَقَامَ فَأَخَذَهَا
ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ ( ایک مہم پرگئے ۔ ہم میں سے ہر شخص کی خوراک روز کی ایک کھجور تھی وہ اس کھجور کو چوستا رہتا اور پھر اس کو اپنے کپڑے میں لپیٹ لیتا ہم اپنی کمانوں سے درختوں کے پتےجھاڑتے تھے اور کھاتے تھے حتیٰ کہ ہماری باچھوں میں زخم ہو ئے ۔ قسم کھاتا ہوں کہ ایک دن ہم میں سے ایک غلطی سے اس ( ایک کھجور ) سے محروم رہ گیا ہم اسے ( سہارادے کر ) اٹھاتے ہوئے لے کر ( تقسیم کرنے والے کے پاس ) گئے ۔ اور اس کے حق میں گواہی دی کہ اسے وہ ایک کھجور ) نہیں دی گئی ۔ وہ اسے دی گئی تو اس نے خود کھڑے ہو کر لی ۔
Jabir reported: We set out on an expedition with Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) and the only means of sustenance for every person amongst us was only one date for a day and we used to chew it. And we struck the leaves with the help of our bow and ate them until the sides of our mouths were injured. It so happened one day that a person was overlooked and not given a date. We carried that person and bore witness to the fact that he had not been given that date so he was offered that and he got up and received that.

Jabir b. Abdullah reported that Allah's Apostle ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) happened to walk through the bazar coming from the side of 'Aliya and the people were on both his sides. There he found a dead lamb with very short ears. He took hold of his ear and said: Who amongst you would like to have this for a dirham? They said: We do not like to have it even for less than that as it is of no use to us. He said: Do you wish to have it (free of any cost)? They said: By Allah, even if it were alive (we would not have liked to possess that), for there is defect in it as its ear is very short; now it is dead also. Thereupon Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said: By Allah, this world is more insignificant in the eye of Allah than it (this dead lamb) is in your eye.
