حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، قَالَ: كُنَّا نَأْتِي عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو، فَنَتَحَدَّثُ إِلَيْهِ - وَقَالَ ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ: عِنْدَهُ - فَذَكَرْنَا يَوْمًا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ، فَقَالَ: لَقَدْ ذَكَرْتُمْ رَجُلًا لَا أَزَالُ أُحِبُّهُ بَعْدَ شَيْءٍ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: خُذُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ: مِنِ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ فَبَدَأَ بِهِ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ، وَأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ
ابو بکر بن ابی شیبہ اور محمد بن عبداللہ بن نمیر نے کہا : ہمیں وکیع نے حدیث بیان کی ، کہا : ہمیں اعمش نے ( ابو وائل ) شقیق سے حدیث بیان کی ، انھوں نے مسروق سے روایت کی ، کہا : ہم حضرت عبداللہ بن عمرو رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے پاس جاتے تھے اور ان کے ساتھ ( علمی ) گفتگو کیاکرتے تھے ۔ اور ابن نمیر نے کہا : ان کے پاس ( گفتگو کیا کرتے تھے ) چنانچہ ایک دن ہم نے ( ان کے سامنے ) حضرت عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کا ذکر کیا تو انھوں نےکہا : تم نے مجھ سے اس شخص کا ذکر کیا ہے کہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے ایک بات سننے کے بعد سے مسلسل اس سے محبت کرتا ہوں ، میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا : " قرآن چار آدمیوں سے سیکھو : ابن ام عبد ( حضرت ابن مسعود ) رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے ۔ آپ نے ابتداء ان سے کی ۔ معاذ بن جبل رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ ، ابن ابی کعب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ ، اور ابو حذیفہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کےآزاد کردہ غلام سالم سے ۔ "
Masruq reported: We used to go to Abdullah b. 'Amr and talk to him, Ibn Numair said: One day we made a mention of Abdullah b. Mas'ud, whereupon he said: You have made mention of a person whom I love more than anything else. I heard Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) as saying: Learn Qur'an from four persons: Ibn Umm 'Abd (i. e. 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud) he started from him-then Mu'adh b. Jabal and Ubayya b. Ka'b, then Salim the ally of Abu Hudhaifa.

Anas b. Malik reported that Abu Bakr Siddiq reported him thus: I saw the feet of the polytheists very close to us as we were in the cave. I said: Allah's Messenger, if one amongst them were to see at his feet he would have surely seen us. Thereupon he said: Abu Bakr, what can befall two who have Allah as the third One with them.

Abu Sa'id reported that Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) sat on the pulpit and said: Allah gave a choice to His servant that he may opt the beauties of the world or that which is with Him and the servant chose that which was with Him. Thereupon Abu Bakr wept and he wept bitterly and said: Let our fathers and our mothers be taken as ransom for you. It was Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) who had been given the choice and Abu Bakr knew it better than us, and Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) is reported to have said: Behold, of all people the most generous toward me in regard to his companionship and his property was Abu Bakr and were I to choose anyone as my bosom friend, I would have chosen Abu Bakr as my dear friend, but (for him) I cherish Islamic brotherliness and love. There shall be left open no window in the mosque except Abu Bakr's window.
