وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمِ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَصْدَقُ كَلِمَةٍ قَالَهَا شَاعِرٌ كَلِمَةُ لَبِيدٍ [البحر الطويل] أَلَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مَا خَلَا اللهَ بَاطِلٌ وَكَادَ أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ أَنْ يُسْلِمَ»

  سفیان نے عبد الملک بن عمیر سے روایت کی ، کہا : ہمیں ابوسلمہ نے حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے حدیث بیان کی ، کہا : رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فر ما یا : " سب سے سچی بات جو کسی شاعر نے کہی لبید کی بات ہے ۔ " سن رکھو!اللہ کے سوا ہر چیز ( جس کی عبادت کی جا تی ہے ) باطل ہے ۔ " اور قریب تھا کہ امیہ بن ابی صلت مسلمان ہوجاتا ۔ "

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: The truest word uttered by a poet is this verse of Labid: Behold! apart from Allah everything is vain, and Umayya b. Abu Salt was almost a Muslim.

Hadith 5885

`Amr b. Sharid reported his father as saying: One day when I rode behind Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ), he said (to me): Do you remember any poetry of Umayya b. Abu Salt. I said: Yes. He said: Then go on. I recited a couplet, and he said: Go on. Then I again recited a couplet and he said: Go on. I recited one hundred couplets (of his poetry). This hadith has been reported on the authority of Sharid through another chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of wording.

`Amr b. Sharid reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) asked him to recite poetry, the rest of the hadith is the same, but with this addition: He (that is Umayya b. Abu Salt) was about to become a Muslim , and in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Ibn Mahdi (the words are) He was almost a Muslim in his poetry.
