حَدَّثَنِي هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ بَيَانٍ أَبِي بِشْرٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَأَنْ يَغْدُوَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَيَحْطِبَ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ فَيَتَصَدَّقَ بِهِ وَيَسْتَغْنِيَ بِهِ مِنْ النَّاسِ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ رَجُلًا أَعْطَاهُ أَوْ مَنَعَهُ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّ الْيَدَ الْعُلْيَا أَفْضَلُ مِنْ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ
بیان بن ابی بشر نے قیس بن ابی حازم سے اور انھوں نے حضرت ابو ہریرۃ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت کی ، انھوں نے کہا : میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کوفرماتے ہوئے سنا : " تم میں سے کوئی شخص صبح کو نکلے اپنی پشت پر لکڑیاں اکھٹی کر لائےاور اس سے صدقہ کرے اور لوگوں ( کے عطیوں ) سے بے نیاز ہوجائے ، وہ اس سے بہترہے کہ کسی آدمی سے مانگے ، وہ ( چاہے تو ) اسےدے یا ( چاہے تو ) محروم رکھے ، بلاشبہ اوپر والا ہاتھ نیچے والے ہاتھ سے افضل ہے اور ( خرچ کرے کی ) ابتدا ان سے کرو جن کی تم کفالت کرتے ہو ۔ "
Abu Huraira is reported to have heard the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) as saying: It is letter for one among you to bring a load of firewood on his back and give charity out of it (and satisfy his own need) and be independent of people, than that he should beg from people, whether they give him anything or refuse him. Verily the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and begin (charity) with your dependants.
