و حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ وَاثِلَةَ أَنَّ نَافِعَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْحَارِثِ لَقِيَ عُمَرَ بِعُسْفَانَ وَكَانَ عُمَرُ يَسْتَعْمِلُهُ عَلَى مَكَّةَ فَقَالَ مَنْ اسْتَعْمَلْتَ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْوَادِي فَقَالَ ابْنَ أَبْزَى قَالَ وَمَنْ ابْنُ أَبْزَى قَالَ مَوْلًى مِنْ مَوَالِينَا قَالَ فَاسْتَخْلَفْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ مَوْلًى قَالَ إِنَّهُ قَارِئٌ لِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَإِنَّهُ عَالِمٌ بِالْفَرَائِضِ قَالَ عُمَرُ أَمَا إِنَّ نَبِيَّكُمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَرْفَعُ بِهَذَا الْكِتَابِ أَقْوَامًا وَيَضَعُ بِهِ آخَرِينَ

  ابراہیم بن سعد نے ابن شہاب ( زہری ) سے اور انھوں نے عامر بن واثلہ سے روایت کی کہ نافع بن عبدالحارث ( مدینہ اور مکہ کے راستے پر ایک منزل ) عسفان آکر حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے ملے ، ( وہ استقبال کے لئے آئے ) اور حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ انھیں مکہ کا عامل بنایا کرتے تھے ، انھوں ( حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ ) نے ان سے پوچھا کہ آپ نے اہل وادی ، یعنی مکہ کے لوگوں پر ( بطور نائب ) کسے مقرر کیا؟نافع نے جواب دیا : ابن ابزیٰ کو ۔ انھوں نے پوچھا ابن ابزیٰ کون ہے؟کہنے لگے : ہمارے آزاد کردہ غلاموں میں سے ایک ہے ۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نےکہا : تم نے ان پر ایک آزاد کردہ غلام کو اپنا جانشن بنا ڈالا؟تو ( نافع نے ) جواب دیا : و ہ اللہ عزوجل کی کتاب کو پڑھنے والا ہے اور فرائض کا عالم ہے ۔ عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : ( ہاں واقعی ) تمہارے نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا تھا ۔ اللہ تعالیٰ اس کتاب ( قرآن ) کے ذریعے بہت سے لوگوں کو اونچا کردیتا ہے اور بہتوں کو اس کے ذریعے سے نیچا گراتا ہے ۔ "

Amir b. Wathila reported that Nafi' b. 'Abd al-Harith met 'Umar at 'Usfan and 'Umar had employed him as collector in Mecca. He (Hadrat 'Umar) said to him (Nafi'): Whom have you appointed as collector over the people of the valley? He said: Ibn Abza. He said: Who is Ibn Abza? He said: He is one of our freed slaves. He (Hadrat 'Umar) said: So you have appointed a freed slave over them. He said: He is well versed In the Book of Allah. the Exalted and Great, and he is well versed In the commandments and injunctions (of the Shari'ah). 'Umar said: So the Prophet ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: By this Book, Allah would exalt some peoples and degrade others.

Hadith 1838

A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) listened to the recitation of the Qur'an by a man in the mosque. Thereupon he said: May Allah have mercy upon him; be reminded me of the verse which I had been made to forget.

Hadith 1839

Abdullah b. 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: The example of a man who has memorised the Qur'an is like that of a hobbled camel. If he remained vigilant, he would be able to retain it (with him), and if he loosened the hobbled camel it would escape.

Hadith 1840

This hadith has been narrated by Ibn 'Umar from the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ), but in the hadith transmited by Musa b. 'Uqba, this addition is made: When one who had committed the Qur'an to memory (or who is familiar with it) gets up (for night prayer) and recites it night and day, it remains fresh in his mind, but if he does not get up (for prayer and thus does not recite it) he forgets it.

Hadith 1841

Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: What a wretched person is he amongst them who says: I have forgotten such and such a verse. (He should instead of using this expression say): I have been made to forget it. Try to remember the Qur'an for it is more apt to escape from men's minds than a hobbled camel.

Hadith 1842

Abdullah is reported to have said: Keep refreshing your knowledge of the sacred books (or always renew your knowledge of these sacred books) and sometimes he would mention the Qur'an for it is more apt to escape from men's minds than animals which are hobbled, and the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: None of you should say: I forgot such and such a verse, but he has been made to forget.
