حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّهُ بَاتَ عِنْدَ خَالَتِهِ مَيْمُونَةَ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ فَتَوَضَّأَ مِنْ شَنٍّ مُعَلَّقٍ وُضُوءًا خَفِيفًا قَالَ وَصَفَ وُضُوءَهُ وَجَعَلَ يُخَفِّفُهُ وَيُقَلِّلُهُ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَقُمْتُ فَصَنَعْتُ مِثْلَ مَا صَنَعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَقُمْتُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ فَأَخْلَفَنِي فَجَعَلَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَصَلَّى ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ فَنَامَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ بِلَالٌ فَآذَنَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَخَرَجَ فَصَلَّى الصُّبْحَ وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ وَهَذَا لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاصَّةً لِأَنَّهُ بَلَغَنَا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَنَامُ عَيْنَاهُ وَلَا يَنَامُ قَلْبُهُ
سفیان بن عمرو بن دینار سے ، انھوں نے کریب مولیٰ ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت کی کہ انھوں نے اپنی خالہ میمونہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا کے ہاں رات بسر کی ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم را ت کے وقت اٹھے ، پھر آپ نے لٹکی ہوئی مشک سے ہلکا وضوکیا ( کریب نے ) کہا : انھوں ( ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ ) نے آپ کے وضو کی کیفیت بیان کی اور وضو کو ہلکا اور کم کرتے رہے ، ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : میں اٹھا اور وہی کیا جو نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کیا ۔ پھر آکر میں آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی بائیں طرف کھڑا ہوگیا ، آپ نے مجھے اپنے پیچھے کیا ( اور گھما کر ) اپنی دائیں جانب کرلیا ۔ پھر آپ نے نماز پڑھی ۔ پھر لیٹ کر سوگئے حتیٰ کہ آوا ز سے سانس لینے لگے ۔ پھر بلال رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ آئے اور آپ کو نماز کی اطلاع دی ، آپ باہر تشریف لے گئے اور صبح کی نماز ادا فرمائی اور ( نیا ) وضو نہ کیا ۔ سفیان نے کہا : یہ ( نیند کے باوجود وضو کی ضرورت نہ ہونا ) نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا خاصہ تھا کیونکہ ہم تک یہ بات پہنچی ہے کہ آپ کی آنکھیں سوتی تھیں دل نہیں سوتاتھا ۔
Ibn `Abbas reported that he spent a night in the house of his maternal aunt, Maimuna. The Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) got up at night and performed a short ablution (taking water) from the water-skin hanging there. (Giving a description of the ablution Ibn `Abbas said: It was short and performed with a little water.) I also got up and did the same as the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) had done. I then came (to him) and stood on his left. He then made me go around to his right side. He then observed prayer and went to sleep till he began to snore. Bilal came to him and informed him about the prayer. He (the Holy Prophet) then went out and observed the dawn prayer without performing ablution. Sufyan said: It was a special (prerogative of the) Apostle of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) for it has been conveyed to us that the eyes of the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) sleep, but his heart does not sleep.

A'isha, the wife of the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ), said Allah prescribed the prayer as two rak'ahs, then it was completed (to four rak'ahs) at the place of residence, but was retained in the same position in journey as it was first made obligatory.

Yahya b. Umayya said: I told 'Umar b. al-Khattab that Allah had said: You may shorten the prayer only if you fear that those who are unbelievers may afflict you (Qur'an, iv. 101), whereas the people are now safe. He replied: I wondered about it in the same way as you wonder about it, so I asked the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) about it and he said: It is an act of charity which Allah has done to you, so accept His charity.
