حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَخْبَرَنَا هَمَّامٌ، وَأَبَانُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ: «أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ مِنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ، بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَةٍ وَيُسْمِعُنَا الْآيَةَ أَحْيَانًا، وَيَقْرَأُ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْأُخْرَيَيْنِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ»
حجاج کے بجائے ) ہمام اور ابان بن یزید نے یحییٰ بن ابی کثیر سے ، انہوں نے عبد اللہ بن ابی قتادہ سے اور انہوں نے اپنے والد سے روایت کی کہ نبیﷺ ظہر اور عصر کی پہلی دو رکعتوں میں ( سے ہر رکعت میں ) سورۃ فاتحہ اور ایک سورت پڑھتے اور کبھی کبھار ہمیں بھی کوئی آیت سنا دیتے اور آخری دو رکعتوں میں سورۃ فاتحہ پڑھا کرتے تھے ۔
Abu Qatada reported it on the authority of his father: The Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) would recite in the first two rak'ahs of the noon and afternoon prayers the opening chapter of the Book and another surah. He would sometimes recite loud enough to make audible to us the verse and would recite in the last two rak'ahs Surat al-Faitiha (only).

Come to the prayer (twice). Come to success (twice). Ishaq added: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; there Is no god but Allah.
