حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ عَمْرٌو ، سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، يَقُولُ : لَمَّا نَزَلَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُلْ هُوَ الْقَادِرُ عَلَى أَنْ يَبْعَثَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابًا مِنْ فَوْقِكُمْ سورة الأنعام آية 65 ، قَالَ : أَعُوذُ بِوَجْهِكَ أَوْ مِنْ تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِكُمْ ، قَالَ : أَعُوذُ بِوَجْهِكَ ، فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ أَوْ يَلْبِسَكُمْ شِيَعًا وَيُذِيقَ بَعْضَكُمْ بَأْسَ بَعْضٍ سورة الأنعام آية 65 ، قَالَ : هَاتَانِ أَهْوَنُ أَوْ أَيْسَرُ .
ہم سے علی بن عبداللہ مدینی نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے سفیان نے بیان کیا، ان سے عمرو بن دینار نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہما سے سنا، انہوں نے بیان کیا کہ جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پر یہ آیت نازل ہوئی «قل هو القادر على أن يبعث عليكم عذابا من فوقكم» کہ ”کہو کہ وہ اس پر قادر ہے کہ تم پر تمہارے اوپر سے عذاب بھیجے۔“ تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کہا کہ میں تیرے با عظمت و بزرگ منہ کی پناہ مانگتا ہوں۔ «أو من تحت أرجلكم» ”یا تمہارے پاؤں کے نیچے سے“ ( عذاب بھیجے ) تو اس پر پھر نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کہا کہ میں تیرے مبارک منہ کی پناہ مانگتا ہوں، پھر جب یہ آیت نازل ہوئی «أو يلبسكم شيعا ويذيق بعضكم بأس بعض» کہ ”یا تمہیں فرقوں میں تقسیم کر دے اور تم میں سے بعض کو بعض کا خوف چکھائے“ تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ یہ دونوں آسان و سہل ہیں۔
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: When the (following) Verse was revealed to Allah's Apostle: 'Say: He has power to send torment on you from above,'..(6.65) he said, O Allah! I seek refuge with Your Face (from that punishment). And when this was revealed: '..or from beneath your feet.' (6.65) he said, O Allah! I seek refuge with Your Face (from that). And when this Verse was revealed: '..or to cover you with confusion in partystrife, and make you to taste the violence of one another,'...(6.65) he said: These two warnings are easier (than the previous ones).

Narrated Tariq bin Shihab: A Jew said to `Umar, O Chief of the Believers, if this verse: 'This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favors upon you, and have chosen for you, Islam as your religion.'
