وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ ، أَنَّ مَعْقِلَ بْنَ يَسَارٍ كَانَتْ أُخْتُهُ تَحْتَ رَجُلٍ ، فَطَلَّقَهَا ، ثُمَّ خَلَّى عَنْهَا حَتَّى انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُهَا ، ثُمَّ خَطَبَهَا ، فَحَمِيَ مَعْقِلٌ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أَنَفًا ، فَقَالَ : خَلَّى عَنْهَا وَهُوَ يَقْدِرُ عَلَيْهَا ، ثُمَّ يَخْطُبُهَا ، فَحَالَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهَا ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ : وَإِذَا طَلَّقْتُمُ النِّسَاءَ فَبَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَلا تَعْضُلُوهُنَّ سورة البقرة آية 232 إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ ، فَدَعَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَتَرَكَ الْحَمِيَّةَ وَاسْتَقَادَ لِأَمْرِ اللَّهِ .
مجھ سے محمد بن مثنٰی نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے عبدالاعلیٰ نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے سعید بن ابی عروبہ نے، ان سے قتادہ نے، کہا ہم سے امام حسن بصری نے بیان کیا کہ معقل بن یسار رضی اللہ عنہ کی بہن ایک آدمی کے نکاح میں تھیں، پھر انہوں نے انہیں طلاق دے دی، اس کے بعد انہوں نے تنہائی میں عدت گزاری۔ عدت کے دن جب ختم ہو گئے تو ان کے پہلے شوہر نے ہی پھر معقل رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس ان کے لیے نکاح کا پیغام بھیجا۔ معقل کو اس پر بڑی غیرت آئی۔ انہوں نے کہا جب وہ عدت گزار رہی تھی تو اسے اس پر قدرت تھی ( کہ دوران عدت میں رجعت کر لیں لیکن ایسا نہیں کیا ) اور اب میرے پاس نکاح کا پیغام بھیجتا ہے۔ چنانچہ وہ ان کے اور اپنی بہن کے درمیان میں حائل ہو گئے۔ اس پر یہ آیت نازل ہوئی «وإذا طلقتم النساء فبلغن أجلهن فلا تعضلوهن» ”اور جب تم اپنی عورتوں کو طلاق دے چکو اور وہ اپنی مدت کو پہنچ چکیں تو تم انہیں مت روکو۔“ آخر آیت تک پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے انہیں بلا کر یہ آیت سنائی تو انہوں نے ضد چھوڑ دی اور اللہ کے حکم کے سامنے جھک گئے۔
Narrated Al-Hasan: The sister of Ma'qil bin Yasar was married to a man and then that man divorced her and remained away from her till her period of the 'Iddah expired. Then he demanded for her hand in marriage, but Ma'qil got angry out of pride and haughtiness and said, He kept away from her when he could still retain her, and now he demands her hand again? So Ma'qil disagreed to remarry her to him. Then Allah revealed: 'When you have divorced women and they have fulfilled the term of their prescribed period, do not prevent them from marrying their (former) husbands.' (2.232) So the Prophet sent for Ma'qil and recited to him (Allah's order) and consequently Ma'qil gave up his pride and haughtiness and yielded to Allah's order.

Hadith 5251
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: that he had divorced his wife while she was menstruating during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle . `Umar bin Al-Khattab asked Allah's Apostle about that. Allah's Apostle said, Order him (your son) to take her back and keep her till she is clean and then to wait till she gets her next period and becomes clean again, whereupon, if he wishes to keep her, he can do so, and if he wishes to divorce her he can divorce her before having sexual intercourse with her; and that is the prescribed period which Allah has fixed for the women meant to be divorced.

He said, You have sought refuge with The Great; return to your family.

Narrated Abu Usaid: We went out with the Prophet to a garden called Ash-Shaut till we reached two walls between which we sat down. The Prophet said, Sit here, and went in (the garden). The Jauniyya (a lady from Bani Jaun) had been brought and lodged in a house in a date-palm garden in the home of Umaima bint An- Nu`man bin Sharahil, and her wet nurse was with her. When the Prophet entered upon her, he said to her, Give me yourself (in marriage) as a gift. She said, Can a princess give herself in marriage to an ordinary man? The Prophet raised his hand to pat her so that she might become tranquil. She said, I seek refuge with Allah from you. He said, You have sought refuge with One Who gives refuge. Then the Prophet came out to us and said, O Abu Usaid! Give her two white linen dresses to wear and let her go back to her family.
