حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَرْعَرَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ أَبِي بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يُدْنِي ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ إِنَّ لَنَا أَبْنَاءً مِثْلَهُ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ تَعْلَمُ فَسَأَلَ عُمَرُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ سورة النصر آية 1 فَقَالَ : أَجَلُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْلَمَهُ إِيَّاهُ ، قَالَ : مَا أَعْلَمُ مِنْهَا إِلَّا مَا تَعْلَمُ .
ہم سے محمد بن عرعرہ نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے شعبہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابی بشر نے، ان سے سعید بن جبیر نے، ان سے عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ عمر بن خطاب ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کو اپنے پاس بٹھاتے تھے۔ اس پر عبدالرحمٰن بن عوف رضی اللہ عنہ نے عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے شکایت کی کہ ان جیسے تو ہمارے لڑکے بھی ہیں۔ لیکن عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے جواب دیا کہ یہ محض ان کے علم کی وجہ سے ہے۔ پھر عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے آیت «إذا جاء نصر الله والفتح» کے متعلق پوچھا تو انہوں نے جواب دیا کہ یہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی وفات تھی جس کی خبر اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپ کو دی عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا جو تم نے سمجھا ہے میں بھی وہی سمجھتا ہوں۔
Narrated Sa`id bin Jubair: About Ibn `Abbas: `Umar bin Al-Khattab used to treat Ibn `Abbas very favorably `Abdur Rahman bin `Auf said to him. We also have sons that are equal to him (but you are partial to him.) `Umar said, It is because of his knowledge. Then `Umar asked Ibn `Abbas about the interpretation of the Verse:- 'When come the Help of Allah and the conquest (of Mecca) (110.1) Ibn `Abbas said. It portended the death of Allah's Apostle, which Allah had informed him of. `Umar said, I do not know from this Verse but what you know.

Narrated Kulaib: I was told by the Rabiba (i.e. daughter of the wife of the Prophet) who, I think, was Zainab, that the Prophet (forbade the utensils (of wine called) Ad-Dubba, Al-Hantam, Al-Muqaiyar and Al-Muzaffat. I said to her, 'Tell me as to which tribe the Prophet belonged; was he from the tribe of Mudar?'' She replied, He belonged to the tribe of Mudar and was from the offspring of An-Nadr bin Kinana.

Those who were the best in the pre-lslamic period, are also the best in Islam if they comprehend religious knowledge.
