حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، حَرَّقَ قَوْمًا فَبَلَغَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَقَالَ : لَوْ كُنْتُ أَنَا لَمْ أُحَرِّقْهُمْ لِأَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : لَا تُعَذِّبُوا بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ ، وَلَقَتَلْتُهُمْ ، كَمَا قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَنْ بَدَّلَ دِينَهُ فَاقْتُلُوهُ .
ہم سے علی بن عبداللہ نے بیان کیا ‘ کہا ہم سے سفیان نے بیان کیا ‘ ان سے ایوب نے ‘ ان سے عکرمہ نے کہ علی رضی اللہ عنہ نے ایک قوم کو ( جو عبداللہ بن سبا کی متبع تھی اور علی رضی اللہ عنہ کو اپنا رب کہتی تھی ) جلا دیا تھا۔ جب یہ خبر عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کو ملی تو آپ نے کہا کہ اگر میں ہوتا تو کبھی انہیں نہ جلاتا کیونکہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ہے کہ اللہ کے عذاب کی سزا کسی کو نہ دو ‘ البتہ میں انہیں قتل ضرور کرتا کیونکہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ہے جو شخص اپنا دین تبدیل کر دے اسے قتل کر دو۔
Narrated `Ikrima: `Ali burnt some people and this news reached Ibn `Abbas, who said, Had I been in his place I would not have burnt them, as the Prophet said, 'Don't punish (anybody) with Allah's Punishment.' No doubt, I would have killed them, for the Prophet said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.'

Narrated `Abdullah bin Masud: I asked Allah's Apostle, O Allah's Apostle! What is the best deed? He replied, To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times. I asked, What is next in goodness? He replied, To be good and dutiful to your parents. I further asked, what is next in goodness? He replied, To participate in Jihad in Allah's Cause. I did not ask Allah's Apostle anymore and if I had asked him more, he would have told me more.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Allah's Apostle said, There is no Hijra (i.e. migration) (from Mecca to Medina) after the Conquest (of Mecca), but Jihad and good intention remain; and if you are called (by the Muslim ruler) for fighting, go forth immediately.

Narrated Abu Huraira: A man came to Allah's Apostle and said, Instruct me as to such a deed as equals Jihad (in reward). He replied, I do not find such a deed. Then he added, Can you, while the Muslim fighter is in the battle-field, enter your mosque to perform prayers without cease and fast and never break your fast? The man said, But who can do that? Abu- Huraira added, The Mujahid (i.e. Muslim fighter) is rewarded even for the footsteps of his horse while it wanders bout (for grazing) tied in a long rope.

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: Somebody asked, O Allah's Apostle! Who is the best among the people? Allah's Apostle replied A believer who strives his utmost in Allah's Cause with his life and property. They asked, Who is next? He replied, A believer who stays in one of the mountain paths worshipping Allah and leaving the people secure from his mischief.
