حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، يَقُولُ : حَمَلْتُ عَلَى فَرَسٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَابْتَاعَهُ أَوْ فَأَضَاعَهُ الَّذِي كَانَ عِنْدَهُ ، فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَشْتَرِيَهُ وَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ بَائِعُهُ بِرُخْصٍ ، فَسَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : لَا تَشْتَرِهِ وَإِنْ بِدِرْهَمٍ ، فَإِنَّ الْعَائِدَ فِي هِبَتِهِ كَالْكَلْبِ يَعُودُ فِي قَيْئِهِ .
ہم سے اسماعیل بن ابی اویس نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے مالک رحمہ اللہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے زید بن اسلم نے، ان سے ان کے والد نے کہ میں نے عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنا، آپ فرما رہے تھے کہ میں نے اللہ کے راستے میں ایک گھوڑا سواری کے لیے دیا، اور جسے دیا تھا وہ اسے بیچنے لگا۔ یا ( آپ نے یہ فرمایا تھا کہ ) اس نے اسے بالکل کمزور کر دیا تھا۔ اس لیے میرا ارادہ ہوا کہ میں اسے واپس خرید لوں، مجھے یہ خیال تھا کہ وہ شخص سستے داموں پر اسے بیچ دے گا۔ میں نے اس کے متعلق نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے جب پوچھا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ اگر وہ گھوڑا تمہیں ایک درہم میں مل جائے پھر بھی اسے نہ خریدنا۔ کیونکہ اپنے ہی صدقہ کو واپس لینے والا اس کتے کی طرح ہے جو اپنی قے کو خود ہی چاٹتا ہے۔
Narrated Aslam: I heard `Umar bin Al-Khattab saying, I gave a horse to be ridden in Allah's Cause and the person who got it intended to sell it or neglected it. So, I wanted to buy it as I thought he would sell it cheap. I consulted the Prophet who said, Do not buy it even if for one Dirham, because he who takes back his gift is like a dog swallowing its vomit.

Hadith 2782
Narrated `Abdullah bin Masud: I asked Allah's Apostle, O Allah's Apostle! What is the best deed? He replied, To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times. I asked, What is next in goodness? He replied, To be good and dutiful to your parents. I further asked, what is next in goodness? He replied, To participate in Jihad in Allah's Cause. I did not ask Allah's Apostle anymore and if I had asked him more, he would have told me more.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Allah's Apostle said, There is no Hijra (i.e. migration) (from Mecca to Medina) after the Conquest (of Mecca), but Jihad and good intention remain; and if you are called (by the Muslim ruler) for fighting, go forth immediately.

Narrated Abu Huraira: A man came to Allah's Apostle and said, Instruct me as to such a deed as equals Jihad (in reward). He replied, I do not find such a deed. Then he added, Can you, while the Muslim fighter is in the battle-field, enter your mosque to perform prayers without cease and fast and never break your fast? The man said, But who can do that? Abu- Huraira added, The Mujahid (i.e. Muslim fighter) is rewarded even for the footsteps of his horse while it wanders bout (for grazing) tied in a long rope.

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: Somebody asked, O Allah's Apostle! Who is the best among the people? Allah's Apostle replied A believer who strives his utmost in Allah's Cause with his life and property. They asked, Who is next? He replied, A believer who stays in one of the mountain paths worshipping Allah and leaving the people secure from his mischief.
