حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ الضَّبِّيُّ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ غَيْلَانَ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: صِيَامُ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ إِنِّي أَحْتَسِبُ عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُكَفِّرَ السَّنَةَ الَّتِي قَبْلَهُ . وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، وَمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَيْفِيٍّ، وَسَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ، وَهِنْدِ بْنِ أَسْمَاءَ، وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، وَالرُّبَيِّعِ بِنْتِ مُعَوِّذِ ابْنِ عَفْرَاءَ، وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيِّ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ذَكَرُوا، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ حَثَّ عَلَى صِيَامِ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى: لَا نَعْلَمُ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنَ الرِّوَايَاتِ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: صِيَامُ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ كَفَّارَةُ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا فِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، وَبِحَدِيثِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ يَقُولُ أَحْمَدُ، وَإِسْحَاقُ.
ابوقتادہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”میں اللہ سے امید رکھتا ہوں کہ عاشوراء ۱؎ کے دن کا روزہ ایک سال پہلے کے گناہ مٹا دے گا“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- اس باب میں علی، محمد بن صیفی، سلمہ بن الاکوع، ہند بن اسماء، ابن عباس، ربیع بنت معوذ بن عفراء، عبدالرحمٰن بن سلمہ خزاعی، جنہوں نے اپنے چچا سے روایت کی ہے اور عبداللہ بن زبیر رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے عاشوراء کے دن کے روزہ رکھنے پر ابھارا، ۲- ابوقتادہ رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث کے علاوہ ہم نہیں جانتے کہ کسی اور روایت میں آپ نے یہ فرمایا ہو کہ عاشوراء کے دن کا روزہ ایک سال کے گناہوں کا کفارہ ہے۔ احمد اور اسحاق کا قول بھی ابوقتادہ کی حدیث کے مطابق ہے۔
Abu Qatadah narrated that : the Prophet said: Fast the Day of Ashura, for indeed I anticipate that Allah will forgive (the sins of) the year before it.

Hadith 682
Abu Hurairah narrated that : the Messenger of Allah said: On the first night of the month of Ramadan, the Shayatin are shackled, the jinns are restrained, the gates of the Fires are shut such that no gate among them would be opened. The gates of Paradise are opened such that no gate among them would be closed, and a caller calls: 'O seeker of the good; come near!' and 'O seeker of evil; stop!
