Chapters on Supplication

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   جب شام ہوتی تو نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کہتے «أمسينا وأمسى الملك لله والحمد لله ولا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له أراه قال فيها له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير أسألك خير ما في هذه الليلة وخير ما بعدها وأعوذ بك من شر هذه الليلة وشر ما بعدها وأعوذ بك من الكسل وسوء الكبر وأعوذ بك من عذاب النار وعذاب القبر» ”ہم نے شام کی اور ساری بادشاہی نے شام کی اللہ کے حکم سے، تمام تعریفیں اللہ کے لیے ہیں، اللہ وحدہ لاشریک لہ کے سوا کوئی معبود برحق نہیں، اسی کے لیے بادشاہت ہے اسی کے لیے حمد ہے اور وہ ہر چیز پر قادر ہے، اس رات میں جو خیر ہے، اس کا میں طالب ہوں، اور رات کے بعد کی بھی جو بھلائی ہے اس کا بھی میں خواہاں ہوں، اور اس رات کی برائی اور رات کے بعد کی بھی برائی سے میں پناہ مانگتا ہوں، اور پناہ مانگتا ہوں میں سستی اور کاہلی سے، اور پناہ مانگتا ہوں بوڑھا پے کی تکلیف سے، اور پناہ مانگتا ہوں آگ کے عذاب سے اور پناہ مانگتا ہوں قبر کے عذاب سے“، اور جب صبح ہوتی تو اس وقت بھی یہی دعا پڑھتے، تھوڑی سی تبدیلی کے ساتھ «أمسينا» کی جگہ «أصبحنا» اور «أمسى» کی جگہ «أصبح» کہتے «وأصبح الملك لله والحمد لله» ”صبح کی ہم نے، اور صبح کی ساری بادشاہی نے، اور ساری تعریفیں اللہ کے لیے ہیں“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، شعبہ نے یہ حدیث اسی سند سے ابن مسعود سے روایت کی ہے، اور اسے مرفوعاً روایت نہیں کیا ہے۔

`Abdullah said: “When he reached the evening, the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say, ‘We have reached the evening, and the Dominion has reached the evening, while belonging to Allah. And all praise belongs to Allah. None has the right to be worshiped but Allah, alone, without partner. (Amsaina wa amsal-mulku lillāh, wal-ḥamdullilāh, wa lā ilāha illallāh, waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu)’ – I think he said [in it]: - ‘To Him belongs the Dominion, and to Him is the praise, and He is capable of all things. I ask You for the good that is in this night, and the good of what is after it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night, and the evil of what is after it, and I seek refuge in You from laziness and helpless old age. And I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the Fire and the punishment of the grave (Lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu, wa huwa `alā kulli shai'in qadīr. Asa'luka khaira mā fī hādhihil-lailah, wa khaira mā ba`dahā, wa a`ūdhu bika min sharri hādhihil-lailati wa sharri mā ba`dahā, wa a`ūdhu bika minal-kasali wa sū'il-kibar, wa a`ūdhu bika min `adhābin-nāri wa `adhābil-qabr).’ And when he reached the morning, he (ﷺ) used to say, ‘We have reached the morning, and the Dominion has reached the morning, while belonging to Allah. And all praise belongs to Allah (Aṣbaḥnā wa aṣbaḥal-mulku lillāh, wal-ḥamdulillāh).’”
