حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ الْوَرْدِ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ، قَالَ: كَتَبَ مُعَاوِيَةُ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا، أَنِ اكْتُبِي إِلَيَّ كِتَابًا تُوصِينِي فِيهِ وَلَا تُكْثِرِي عَلَيَّ، فَكَتَبَتْ عَائِشَةُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكَ، أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: مَنِ الْتَمَسَ رِضَاءَ اللَّهِ بِسَخَطِ النَّاسِ كَفَاهُ اللَّهُ مُؤْنَةَ النَّاسِ، وَمَنِ الْتَمَسَ رِضَاءِ النَّاسِ بِسَخَطِ اللَّهِ وَكَلَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى النَّاسِ، وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ ،
عبدالوہاب بن ورد سے روایت ہے کہ ان سے مدینہ کے ایک شخص نے بیان کیا: معاویہ رضی الله عنہ نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی الله عنہا کے پاس ایک خط لکھا کہ مجھے ایک خط لکھئیے اور اس میں کچھ وصیت کیجئے لیكن بہت زیادہ نہیں ۔ چنانچہ عائشہ رضی الله عنہا نے معاویہ رضی الله عنہ کے پاس خط لکھا: دعا و سلام کے بعد معلوم ہو کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے: ”جو لوگوں کی ناراضگی میں اللہ تعالیٰ کی رضا کا طالب ہو تو لوگوں سے پہنچنے والی تکلیف کے سلسلے میں اللہ اس کے لیے کافی ہو گا اور جو اللہ کی ناراضگی میں لوگوں کی رضا کا طالب ہو تو اللہ تعالیٰ انہیں لوگوں کو اسے تکلیف دینے کے لیے مقرر کر دے گا“، ( والسلام علیک تم پر اللہ کی سلامتی نازل ہو ) ۱؎۔
Abdul-Wahhab bin Al-Ward narrated from a man among the inhabitants of Al-Madinah who said: Mu'awiyah wrote a letter to 'Aishah, that: 'Write a letter to advise me , and do not overburden me.' He said: So 'Aishah [may Allah be pleased with her]wrote to Mu'awiyah: 'Peace be upon you. As for what follows: Indeed I heard the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) saying: Whoever seeks Allah's pleasure by the people's wrath, Allah will suffice him from the people. And who ever seeks the people's pleasure by Allah's wrath, Allah will entrust him to the people. And Peace be upon you.'

Al-Hasan narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: Who will take these statements from me, so that he may act upon them, or teach one who will act upon them? So Abu Hurairah said: I said: 'I shall O Messenger of Allah!' So he (s.a.w) took my hand and enumerated five (things), he said: Be on guard against the unlawful and you shall be the most worshiping among the people, be satisfied with what Allah has alloted for you and you shall be the richest of the people, be kind to your neighbor and you shall be a believer, love for the people what you love for yourself and you shall be a Muslim. Hani' the freed slave of 'Uthman said: When 'Uthman would stop at a grave he would cry until his beard was soaked (in tears). It was said to him: 'The Paradise and the Fire were mentioned and you did not cry, yet you cry because of this?' So he said: 'Indeed the Messenger of Allah said: Indeed the grave is the first stage among the stages of the Hereafter. So if one is saved from it, then what comes after it is easier than it. And if one is not saved from it, then what comes after it is worse than it. And the Messenger of Allah said: I have not seen any sight except that the grave is more horrible than it.
