Prime Minister Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives to complete the project of connecting Thar Coal Mines to the railway line by March 23, 2023.
PM was chairing a meeting on Thar Coal Mines at the Prime MinisterÂ’s office.
According to the sources, this decision in principle is between the federal government and the Government of Sindh to mutually develop the project to connect the Thar Coal Mines to the railway line.
Premier Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also witnessed the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Railways of the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Sindh to link Thar coal mines with the current Pakistan Railways.
The Prime Minister stated that the government is tirelessly working day and night to re-establish Pakistan’s development progress, which was deliberately jeopardized from 2018 to 2022. “We completed the projects in record time during the previous regime”, he added.
“During our previous government, we accomplished the development projects within a record period. What to talk of launching new development projects, the previous government halted the ongoing ones wasting the public money,” the PM commented.
He added that by connecting the Thar Coal Mines to the railway line, domestic coal will be utilized instead of imported coal. This would help power plants use Thar coal, consequently saving the country $2 billion per year in fuel imports for power plants.
Moreover, the meeting also discussed that by connecting the Thar coal mines to the railway lines, local coal will be easily supplied to Jamshoro, Port Qasim, and other power plants in the country, as well as to the local industry. This will ultimately save valuable foreign exchange spent on importing coal and fuel.
The Prime Minister ordered the concerned authorities to work on this project on a priority basis and to try hard to complete it by March 2023.
