In keeping with its intention to develop a dedicated track for the Yellow Line BRT service, the Sindh government announced the reconstruction of a new bridge along the perilous Jam Sadiq Bridge that connects the Korangi industrial region with the southern portion of the city.

The choice was made during a meeting presided over by Sharjeel Inam Memon, the Sindh Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, who gave the project director the order to publish a notice inviting tender (NIT) for building a new bridge for the BRT Yellow Line along the Jam Sadiq Bridge. According to a statement issued after the meeting, “The minister also directed to issue an expression of interest for the construction of the boundary wall around the Dawood Chowrangi and Indus Hospital Bus Depot as well,”

According to the report, the conference reviewed the project’s advancement and conducted a thorough debate about building a new bridge alongside the Jam Sadiq Bridge. In order to offer Karachi’s residents a cutting-edge, reasonably priced, and secure transportation system, the minister stated that the Sindh government aims to finish all public transportation projects on schedule. He continued by saying that the provincial minister had stated that extra safety precautions should be taken throughout the new bridge building to prevent any unexpected incidents.

“The construction period of the bridge should be reduced to one and a half years,” the statement quoted the minister as saying. “A meeting be set with DIG Traffic to prepare an alternative traffic plan for heavy traffic on Jam Sadiq Bridge. Heavy traffic should be banned on Jam Sadiq Bridge once the construction of Yellow Line Bridge begins. Besides construction of new bridge, the boundary wall work around Dawood Chowrangi and Indus hospital Bus Depot should also be started.”

According to Managing Director of Sindh Mass Transit Authority Zubair Chana at a briefing, the new bridge would be one kilometre long. The new bridge and the current Jam Sadiq bridge are separated by 5 metres. The bridge’s construction will be finished in 24 months, according to PC-1.

The current Jam Sadiq Bridge will be repaired and maintained when the new bridge is built.
