Hyundai Motor Company is providing drivers in Pakistan with some respite from the intense summer heat by using cutting-edge nanotechnology that significantly lowers interior car heat without the need for tinted windows.

This month, the South Korean manufacturer began a campaign named “Made Cooler by Hyundai” to provide free installation of its unique “nano cooling film” on more than 70 automobile windows in Lahore.

Hyundai repair centres in the second-largest city in Pakistan started taking applications in March and started applying the translucent film, which uses an innovative radiative cooling system to lower cabin temperatures by nearly 10 degrees Celsius.

The project intends to lessen the financial and environmental burdens on drivers in Pakistan, where summer temperatures frequently reach 50 degrees Celsius despite tinted window films being legally forbidden for security reasons. Instead of using air conditioning, many drivers choose to open their windows to save fuel.

Hyundai’s radiative cooling nanofilm permits infrared radiation from the interior of a car to escape through the windows, significantly reducing interior temperature, in contrast to traditional tinted films that only partially reflect sunlight.

After installation, one participant—who drives more than 100 kilometres a day on average—told Hyundai that the film offered considerable cooling relief, and they “could not pass up” buying the company’s upcoming vehicle model with the cutting-edge technology.

The nano cooling film is still undergoing last-minute pre-production testing. Before the cutting-edge nanotechnology is offered as a commercial option for upcoming automobile models, Hyundai stated that it will gather real-world data in Pakistan to guarantee quality requirements.

The business hailed the transparent film as a “groundbreaking” innovation, noting that it might improve driver comfort while mitigating environmental effects. This would benefit drivers in battling the intense heat without breaking any local rules that prohibit tinted windows.

With respect to the Pakistan cooling film campaign, which is associated with Hyundai’s brand pillars of sustainability and advancement, an official from the company said, “This initiative encapsulates our vision of leveraging frontier mobility solutions to address pressing issues in society with technologies that put people first.”
