In accordance with directives from the Minister for Information and Local Government, Amir Mir, an initiative to combat illicit constructions and encroachments in Lahore has been set in motion.

Over 51 commercial and residential buildings that were still under construction have been subjected to closure due to their failure to adhere to approved architectural plans. In addition, a thorough examination is presently underway to assess the potential necessity of dismantling structures that were erected without proper authorization.

Taking cues from the Minister’s guidance, Dr. Arshad Ahmad, the Secretary of Local Government, has undertaken actions against building inspectors who have played a role in facilitating unlawful construction activities.

Strict legal measures have been enacted against individuals who have been participating in unauthorized construction endeavors, leading to the lodging of First Information Reports (FIRs) against them.

On the orders of the Local Government Minister, excavation activities beneath the shops situated along McLeod Road in the Data Ganj Bakhsh Zone have been brought to a halt. This decision was taken to mitigate the risk of neighboring buildings collapsing as a consequence of unauthorized excavations taking place without the necessary permissions.

To address this issue, FIRs have been filed against shop owners involved in these activities, with public complaints serving as a catalyst for the attention directed towards basement encroachments.

The response to this matter has extended beyond merely eliminating encroachments; restorative measures have been implemented to return excavated soil back into the basements.

Concurrently, construction efforts on a commercial project lacking the essential approvals in the vicinity of Anarkali Bazaar have been suspended. The cessation of construction operations and the subsequent sealing of the site have led to the formulation of formal FIRs against the proprietors responsible for the undertaking.

Furthermore, the collaborative efforts of the Local Government Department and the provincial minister have demonstrated a commitment to addressing public concerns and ensuring urban development follows lawful channels. This crackdown not only upholds the integrity of the city’s infrastructure but also showcases a dedication to maintaining transparency and accountability in construction practices.
