In the first quarter of 2023, TikTok, a popular online video sharing platform, took action to enforce its community guidelines and removed approximately 11.7 million videos uploaded from Pakistan.
The platform released its latest community guidelines enforcement report for this period, aiming to combat misinformation and create a safe environment for its users.
Globally, TikTok removed over 91 million videos during the first quarter, accounting for around 0.6% of the total videos uploaded on the platform worldwide. This figure slightly decreased compared to the fourth quarter of 2022 when more than 85.68 million videos were removed. Of the videos removed globally, approximately 53.49 million were automatically removed, while 6.20 million were deleted after manual review.
In Pakistan, 11,707,020 videos were deleted for violating community guidelines during the same period, showing a slight decrease from the 12.68 million videos removed in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Encouragingly, 83% of the violative videos in Pakistan were successfully removed before any viewers could see them, and almost 92.2% of such content was eliminated within a day. This indicates the platform’s proactive approach to enforcing guidelines.
The report also highlighted TikTok’s commitment to ensuring the safety of young users. During Q1 of 2023, TikTok removed 16.94 million accounts suspected of belonging to users under the age of 13.
Additionally, approximately 51.29 million fake accounts were removed globally, reflecting TikTok’s efforts to counter fraudulent activity. Apart from addressing guideline violations, TikTok actively targets spam accounts and related content, using preventive measures to block the creation of spam accounts automatically.
The platform’s community guidelines are designed to create a safe, inclusive, and authentic experience for all users, and they apply to all types of content. TikTok employs a combination of innovative technology and human review to identify, assess, and take action against content that violates its guidelines.
